Driver Info
« on: November 12, 2001, 08:40:00 AM »
Hello,

As I am still new with the Geforce cards,  how do I know what version my drivers are exactly?  I have seen reference drivers, detonator drivers, etc, and am still a bit confused.  If I pull up driver information,  it lists version 04.13.1.2183, or something very similar.  Is this the latest nvidia driver, the latest detonator, or combiniations thereof?  So many numbers, so little memory (mine). Any help or helpful comments are appreciated.

(I knew the Voodoo as you do so well)

Thanks

Texman

that's version 21.83 ...

see http://www.guru3d.com/files/detonator/  for (all?) versions.

If you have an Nvidia chipset, you want the 21.83 driver. It covers virtually everything Nvidia puts out, so that makes selection easy.

For gaming, it's usually not that simple Kieran.  I spend a lot of time on these boards getting folks to use earlier driver versions for the older model cards.

Those drivers are NEDs.  Nvidia Experimental Drivers.  They are not certified and are normally not as good quality as the "official" drivers.  Also, the NEDs seem to be optimized for the later model cards.  Anything other than a GeForce 3 and I expect trouble with the later version NEDs.  Often the speed is good, but you may see other problems like crashes, locks, or other graphical problems.  Also, some versions like the TNT original are not included in the later model detonators.

See my sig for my recommendations for OS/driver version for TnT2-GF2 cards.  They may not be the absolute fastest, but they are the most stable ones going in my experience.

And once again.  I can't say this enough.  If it ain't broke don't screw with it!  If your current drivers work, don't "upgrade", it's not worth it.

Check Nvidia's site Lephturn.  The 21.83 drivers are WHQL Certified.

wish it was that easy ...
i also grabbed the new Detonators as soon as they came out and kept having problems with AH hanging and crashing. finally after some experimenting settled for version 7.52 (!) and everything runs smooth now ...
that's on a 1 yr. old GeForce2 MX with 32 Mb.
