Track IR repair?
« on: December 11, 2010, 07:52:45 PM »
Just reloaded the game, and pulled out my old gear. Unfortunately - CRISIS and DISASTER - my TrackIR track clip has broken! The three point IR emitter that attaches with a rotating socket to the clip frame, has lost one of the prongs that locked it in place. Consequently, the little booger flops around like....well, like I used to fly. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this thing without losing the rotating capability?

For now, will pull out my trusty (but dorky) hat with reflector clips...

Got exactly the same problem Simaril, fixed it by using electricians tape, can still rotate it (slowly) and it works ok. Bear in mind that you have to replace the tape every so often, or it falls out again.

Wurzel (oh, and stretch the tape when applying, makes a huge difference)

I'm trying to find a way to get a sleeve inside at the moment, so I can rotate it more normally....will let you's all know if I find one and how etc.

i would just superglue it in the proper position.. the trackclip pro is really is a pretty weak piece of equipment, mine popped out at least 5 times just by accidentally bumping it by scratching my ear, etc.. it was loose hanging by the wires, but still hasn't broken the prongs, still able to snap back into the socket.

I dont know where they get off charging 30$ for it. its too fragile.

The stretched black electrical tape worked out fine for me. (Plus, it looks so stylish!)

For longer term fix I'm thinking about a short length of plastic tube, slit down the center and popped over the connection area. May get around to it eventually, but for now just struggling to get the game stable. Not worried - Skuzzy and team are riding over the hill to the rescue -- but can't play yet due to hard locks within 5 minutes of starting program.

Thats what I'm after the shrink wrap for Simaril, looking to make a sleeve for inside (where the prongs are), insert and glue in place one end only, and use the shrink wrap to hold it all together etc.
