Lock Up On Starting Game
« on: December 14, 2010, 09:57:23 PM »
Yesterday I downloaded the update and after that whenever I click on the desktop icon I get a white rectangle that locks up my PC.  I have downloaded and installed an entire new game, but did keep my settings and skins.  That worked for about 20 minutes and after landing three victories I took off again only to have the game freeze up. When I tried to restart the game the white rectangle came up again and locked up the PC.

I have flown AH for years and never encountered anything like this before. Since it happened right after the update I highly suspect that there is a connection.

I emailed support and they had me run a diagnostic and email them the results.  So far no word.

Has anyone else experienced this?  I'd appreciate any thoughts or ideas out there.

Thank God I had an older file and can still fly off line.

Are you sure you got the game files loaded in the correct location?

Did you download the correct version (correct version is 2.22 patch 0). It will show upper left corner at logon screen.

I would also suggest to default all your skins and sounds. Get everything to a basic level. Post your DX diagnostic here so we can have a look. Post the sections on the computer, video and sound stuff.

OK, just saw your cross post in the help/support forum. Post your DX stuff there.

HI Blooz,

As I write this I am downloading another new AH game file.  Once that is downloaded I'll copy it as a backup.

That way, I will only have the default skins as you suggested.  My sounds are default.

I'll try a start up on the game with default settings to see if it will lock up.

If not, I'll replace the settings with mine and try again.

If no lockup, I'll add the skins and try again.

I'll paste the DXDiag below.  It is uninterperable to me, but was sent tp Roy two days ago per his request.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, I tried to paste it here, but AH server said it was too large.

If you do not get an email response, within 24 hours of submission, check your SPAM folders.  If it is not there, then I did not get the email, or the answer got lost in transit.

Yup..you need to break it up into smaller posts. Copy and paste it in here. Just the sections about your computer, the graphics and the sound stuff will do.

Well - re-downloaded game.

Made copy.

Kept original untouched.

Used the copy and first tried my previous settings.  Worked OK. (So far)
Used the copy and added skins.  Seems longer to load game, but works OK. (So far)

No clue.

Will post again after a few days of if something happens...

there are almost 1500 skins. If your computer is one on the low end of the power scale it may have trouble running all of the "extras". Post the top third of the Dxdig report here and you might get more suggestions/help.

Well - both of the prior downloads froze up and would not restart from desk top.  Seems that if I use the voice radio (Vox) it instantly freezes.

AH recommended re-downloading game and starting from scratch.  I did - had to remap keyboard and stick.  Took quite awhile.  Chose one A/C to set views to test game.  Took off and the second I hit F11 (radio voice transmit) she frooze instantly.

Fortunately I had made a two copies.  One I kept with default skins + 1 and the other I copied and moved the skins that I had saved. (Many)  Clicked on icon on the one with the skins, the game loaded and it looked good, right up to the point that I discovered that I lost the sound!  Trashed that one and copied the one that had default skins + one extra for the plane I am flying.

I deleted the radio (Vox) keys and test flew for about an hour.  All OK so far, but will be flying without VOX. (Small price to pay)

Hi ,

Same thing happening here ...

installed new patch , ran game and started my takeoff run hit my mike key and totall game freeze (except for the looped engine sound) .

I'm using SB X-Fi Extreme Gamer sound card . I've un-installed the sound card drivers and the the game works fine (just NO SOUND). If I reinstall the sound drivers (SB original , or the updated drivers) , the same hard screen lock up occurs when I use the "T" key on the key board , or the mapped "T" button on my joystick . Everytime it happens , I have to reboot with the tower button . It's getting frustrating  :O
I'm pretty well at a loss , about now ...

Any suggestions ?

Thanks ,

Having a lock up issue as well. I start the game, click "online play" and it freezes. :(

Post DX diagnostics so we can see what systems you have. That'll give us a place to start.
