X-45 just quits working
« on: December 24, 2001, 03:36:00 PM »
Hey all,

This is the second post for this problem, thought i would try again.  This stick just quits responding in windows randomly.  It shows up as OK in windows joystick properties but test reveals no response.  I have to unplug and replug it in to get it to work.  I have it programed in AH, not using the auto-configure.  I'm runnin W98SE.  I had rudder pedals runnin with it at one time, they are disconnected now.  I have ran nuke usb, used the remove joystick command to get rid of all saitek and logitech drivers, then reinstalled per directions.  I have also tried running with SGE off and on both.  Any suggestions this is getting very frustrating and Saitek doesnt seem to care.  Oh and I have been to Ron Hunts saitek site and simhq posting this problem also....no luck.

You might go to Ron Hunt's site and look at the new way to handle windoze ME and try that route.

Sounds like the drivers aren't loading poperly, this is just a guess.  Be sure to use SGE 3.0 also and I would download SGE 3.0 and use the CD as a drink coaster.

Good Luck

Try joystart.exe from the Stickworks, it wakes up Windoze joystick applet when you start.

maybe its a USB issue and not a X45 one.
do you use a hub? what other usb devices do you have plugged in at same time?
Does your USB controller have it's own IRQ?
I had a similar issue until I gave my USB it's own IRQ and purchased a powered USB hub to insure the USB devices got enough juice

I had that problem with the X36 on Windows 98 using DX8.0a on my older Celeron 466.

I had to unplug it, leave AH and plug it back in and it would work. I still occasionally have that problem.

I'm not sure what causes it- and I don't know if there's a fix for it.

This used to happen to my old x36. One day it quit working for good.  I got an x45 last weekend for Christmas and lo and behold it does the same damn thing.  Though it's usualy at boot up or reboot, and usualy after I've programmed with the gaming extensions thing.

So far so good though, just turn off the CPU, unplug the the stick from the USB hub and plug it right back in.  All the lights come back on and it works fine.

I love these freakin sticks even with that problem.  The x45 is SOOO much better than the X36 was too.  They put that little spring thingy down at the bottom of the stick and it actualy feels similar to my old TM FLCS.  Best sticks out there, and now they're only like 80 bucks. Go get one if you don't have one!!!

Im not sure how to assign an IRQ for this device.  It appears to have its own but I really can't tell.  Could you possibly explain how to do this?

Thanks
