Help configuring TM gear under Win 2000
« on: December 26, 2001, 06:59:00 AM »
I have a Thrustmaster TopGun joystick, Attack Throttle and Elite rudder pedals that I can't get to work in my new system.
(ASUS A7M266 mobo, Athlon 1800 XP, Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card, Win 2000)

The original installation setup for the throttle throws the error "This installation is designed to run in a Win95 environment.  This installation will now abort".   So I went to Thrustmaster's website and downloaded the latest version of the setup (3.10.1), but it throws the same error.

I hooked all the gear up and plugged it into the SC's gameport, and tried to configure it manually. I went to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Gaming Options.  There were no controllers listed.  So I clicked ADD, and selected 3-axis, 4 button joystick, checked Rudder/pedals box.  Under Gameport, I selected "Santa Cruz gameport".  I goes through an "Add new Hardware" routine, but when its finished, the joystick always shows as "Not connected".

The SC gameport shows up with no conflicts in the hardware device manager.

Thanks for any help!

Unless ThrustMaster makes a driver for that setup for Win2k you're outta luck.  If you plug just the joystick and rudders in, you should be able to set them up manually, but the Attack Throttle changes the way the entire setup functions and Windows will no longer recognize the x/y/z/r axis as it would with more standard controls without a hardware-specific driver.
