G940 Questions
« on: December 18, 2010, 10:52:19 PM »
Hi All,

A couple of things I need to ask if someone would be so kind to answer.

Firstly, how do you set up your trim wheels on this stick? Do you do it through the logitech software or direct through AH2? I would guess I am going to have to set neutral to the mark and then band it up or down for vertical trim?

Second question, I watched the FLS dive bombing session and really appreciated it that someone could film it for those of us who could not be there. (I live in a US unfriendly time zone). I noticed someone said you should make sure you are on manual trim for this. What does combat trim do then? Do most folks use Shift X when they get set for the dive?

I would like to get the most out of my expensive stick and appreciate everything I glean off of these forums. They are a great resource.

BTW, if you can carry 6 rockets and 2x1000lb bombs on the P51, why does anyone bother with the VAL, SBD or JU87?

You can dive bomb with combat trim. You don't need manual trim to dive bomb but if you use manual trim you want to preset it for the dive speed and angle. You learn the preset positions by practicing or doing a dry run before your attack.

I just set elevator trim on the throttle for the G940. I use the other throttle rotary for zoom. The trim wheels on the stick base are too slow to reach for elevator for me but they're OK for rudder and aileron. You can use the spare trim wheel on the stick base for RPM. It's all analog controls so you just set it up in AH.

For FFB settings I set trim to 100% and the rest between 10-20%. I don't use spring centering.

On my G940, I never bothered to program the trim wheels for Aces High.  Personally I don't like how the game handles a trimmed axis, but mostly because I like the 'auto set' trim function better (the period key.. of course I have it programmed to my stick as well).  I do have the R1 trim on the throttle set for RPM though.

What I can program without the software I have programmed through Aces High (and left unprogrammed in the software) but some things had to be done through the software like macros, shifted commands, etc.  I guess I'll give you my assignments below.

I should add that Logitech is about to release a new firmware that greatly improves the stick's accuracy (by greatly reducing the REVERSAL BUG).  I currently use a beta version of the firmware and it is a HUGE improvement, but unfortunately I am not allowed to share it but it's supposed to be out by the end of the year.  The Reversal Bug still exists in all of the other axes, but hopefully that will be the next thing they fix.

Shift+Trigger1 - Nothing
Trigger2 - Fire all
Shift+Trigger2 - Fire Selected (Cannons/Bombs/Rockets/ETC)
Pinkie Trigger - SHIFT
S1 - Show/Hide Clipboard
Shift+S1 - Show Damage List
S2 - Toggle Landing Gear
Shift+S2 - Toggle Landing Hook

I know it was a long list and easy to miss, but the pinky trigger is what I use for the "shift" command for the stick.

I don't know why the pedals show having a button.. I suspect it goes back to XP when during the windows calibration you had to 'press a button' on the joystick to move to the next axis.. <shrug> I don't know.

As soon as the updated firmware is available to the general public, I'll let you know!

As promised, Logitech just released a new Firmware update for the G940.  This firmware reduces the "reversal bug" on the stick X and Y axes from about 1.1% to about 0.3%.

As for the other axes, well it's a work in progress but at least they're working on it.

You can read about it (and download the firmware) from Logitech's Forums HERE
