I was calling it the ЛаГГ-3 because thats its name. but if you so desperately need it to be the LaGG-3 then so be it. I still think it should be added because it would be the only russian plane (other than the IL-6) that can actually fill the attack role we need.
LaGG is just a transliteration of ЛаГГ, it's a way of spelling it in the latin alphabet... still makes the same sound. You don't write out Ла-5 or Як-3 or И-16, I just used the cyrillic because I felt like... being special, I guess.
LaGG stands for
Lavochkin
Gorbunov
Gudkov... Gorbunov and Gudkov stopped making contributions to the series after the -3, so their names were dropped for the -5 which is why it's called only the La-5.
Further, the LaGG-3, like its descendants in the La-5 and La-7, was not an attack aircraft. The Soviets early in the war got the idea that unguided rockets were the future of air-to-air combat (clearly, they were wrong).
The most important thing about the LaGG was that, along with the MiG-3 and Yak-1, it was among the best types that the VVS had fielded at the beginning of the war. The overall best, though, was probably the Yak-1.
