Our watch just turned into a warning. 5-8" here but won't start until tomorrow afternoon. Should be manageable.

Yep, got it here in Hendersonville, TN as well.  It's worse south of us though.  I think we're supposed to get more tomorrow.

Unbelievable.

We've got like 3 1/2" of snow so far and the world is shutting down/coming to an end.

People are driving at 2 and 3 mph.  Semi's stuck on by-pass on ramps.  Complete morons with no clue how to drive in good weather are careening into each other because they didn't have the common sense just to stay home.  So far 26 accidents on just 9 miles of 4 lane highway in just 2 hours.  My wife is so busy at the OR at the big hospital in town she's staying all night.

What ever happened to common sense?

Ok--I'll be the first to say it..."Hold my beer and watch this".

Don't get me started on the snowtards.  Two sunday's ago I left the family cabin in a 4x4 with chains (in the back, never used them this year thankfuly) up in No. Cal with over 6" packed on the driveway and 2-4" of fresh stuff on most the highways out of the mountains up there (this was early on the day after New Years and the CA DOT isn't famous for its weekend and holiday snow removals, so I wasn't expecting a fully plowed route, but was pleased to make good cruising speed on the stretches that were plowed and not needing to chain up on the stretches that weren't.).  Then I get to the grapevine on I-5 and the fu!@in' CHP(IA) shut the whole thing down an hour before sunset because snow is starting to stick and they don't want to even try to fight it with plows through the night and escort the numpties through it.  The numpty factor and the incapabilities of the average So. Cal driver in bad weather I understand.  But turning around a prepared and capable driver though (in a 4x4 with chains none-less) at the first sign of snow on the road (it was at less than an inch when they turned me around at the closure) made me want to jsut shove my way through the roadblock after driving for 9 hours and just over an hour away from home (which ended up with me taking an aditional 5-6 hour detour and only racking up 3 hours of sleep before work the next morning, but hey, can you still tell I was errked by the whole fiasco over a week ago?).

The logic being that if the CHP only let the capable and prepared drivers through (4x4, snow tires, chains, a warm jacket, spare jug of water, etc.), the average incapable and unprepared So. Cal driver (front-wheele drive, drop kitted beamer with worn tire tread, t-shirt, shorts, sandals, and a venti capachino from the last Starbucks they passed, etc.) would insist on being allowed to pass through too and would sooner spend the duration of the storm arguing with the officer before having the common logic dawn upon them.

Well just north of Birmingham in a town called Cullman, AL they are claiming up to 8 inches of snow with about an inch of ice underneath it all.

My kids were out of school all day today here in Birmingham and it was mainly ice. I had a little under an inch....around 7/8 inch of ice on the street here at my house. Temp only got to 33 today which was just warm enough for the ice on the power lines to melt...good thing for us. Since we are supposed to be getting freezing rain again tonight and the temps are going back into the upper 20's again tonight.

Got about 5" in the southern part of the state. I'm hoping that it will stay on the ground just long enough to play a little paintball on saturday! Never have played in the snow but I hear its awesome

It will probably be all gone by friday, though   :cry

Here in NH I laugh as I see guys who think they're invincible in their 4 wheel drives go whizzing by!!

Hey I'm Springdale High class of 1983!

You should see when we get snow in Texas. It's even worse!

Like this?? This shut down my area for several days.. Several gas station ran out of gas b/c the trucks couldn't get in.. At the end of the day on Christmas Eve we had about 14'' of snow with drifts up to 6'.  My back yard was between 19'' - 30''. Most snow I've ever seen.

Near white out conditions.. It was much worse later (couldn't even make out the shape of the houses across the road but) I was at work so no pictures  :(

A little bit later after the first one... can start to see the drift in the front yard.

Date is wrong on this one, this was Christmas Day. You can see the lines from the insane wind while it was snowing.

Christmas Day also... The huge drift in my back yard.. This is where the snow was almost 30'' deep

Back yard again from the side.

Up here in the Great White North, the first snow fall causes all kinds of havoc until the brain kicks into winter driving mode. Unfortunately for some this never happens especially those who have 4 wheel drive vehicles. Helps with the 'go' but doesn't help with the 'whoa'.

Saw a funny today. Pulled up behind a pick-up truck with a plow on it. The truck had summer tires. :x

Time for mandatory "winter driver tests" for the lower 48, it would seem!

all the snows gone here but it was quite frosty a coupla days ago, so there was some black ice around. police attended 30 pileups in the county in the space of 2 hours. people just driving around at 80 like usual ...

got to feel sorry for this guy though, his property is on a bend and this truck was the seventh vehicle to smash into his wall that morning!

you'd think after seeing, say the first 4 or 5 cars smashed up by the roadside, that people would get the hint and slow down. apparently not though
