this aircraft and what it would mean to the game has not been discussed in depth in a while.sssooo...Dornier Do 217 Heavy Bomber / Night-Fighter / Reconnaissance / Multirole Aircraft, and can be used  with the hs293 glide bomb and frix X missle(anti shipping)

The Do 217 was initially conceived of as a reconnaissance platform and appeared as such in the Do 217A model version with Daimler-Benz series DB 601 engines. Though limited to just eight production examples, the A model was succeeded by the E model which featured more powerful engines of the BMW brand. This particular model series became a multirole platform, utilized for various reconnaissance and bomber roles including that of torpedo bomber for anti-ship duty and compatible with the Henschel Hs 293 missile. The Do 217K series was later introduced in 1942 and would be the platform designed to carry the Fritz X missile system. A nightfighter derivative was also conceived, complete with radar and an additional four guns angled up and forwards for interception duty. Though a promising design in and of itself, it was hardly capable of dogfighting as it was a bomber/attack aircraft.  main assets were speed (about 350 max level,435mph in dive),8800 lbs bomb load, long range.heavy armour, good armament in night fighter role, capable of torpedoes and anti-shipping missles.  this would be a great upgrade to the axis bomber group with multiple capabilities. this was a german bomber made in quantity, and performs better than the JU-88.  this aircraft would be the stepping stone to the anitshipping missles.

Do217, was concived from the Do17, and the Fritz X, is not a missle, it is a guided bomb, but other then that

massive +1 to adding the Do 217

P.S make the title shorter, when you reply, the RE: that gets added to the subject makes it to long to respond

Ah, yes... The plane mostly used as a night fighter (a role not valid in Aces High) and recon (a role not valid in Aces High) and the few that did bomb were maritime attack with guided bombs and rockets (a role not valid in Aces High as we have neither merchant shipping to attack without risk of return fire, nor have we guided bombs or rockets to use ON the shipping).....

Folks look at the numbers and go "ooh! Gimme! Gimme!" and rarely ever bother looking up how it actually was used. The number of Do217s used as level bombers was very very small.

Very few of the planes we have in-game are being used for only what they were used for in "Teh War"

dog-fighting A-20's and dive-bombing Lancasters come to mind first and foremost.....

How many large naval warships were sunk by B-17's or B-24's level bombing (or any bombing for that matter)?

Still spreading the same nonsense I see.

I provided rough production numbers, roles, uses, in previous discussions. The fact they were used is one thing... I admit I was a bit off about the initial date (early on in the last thread) and then after that did more checking and came back with more info.

You can look it up yourself. The vast majority of the Do217 production runs were used as night fighters or daytime recon or maritime anti-shipping.

They weren't big on level bombing.

+1 to the DO 217.  I would love to see the Fritz X added as a perked ord option.  When you absolutely, positively have to put a really big hole in something. :aok
