Spitfire-Request for another gun package and bubble canopy
« on: January 31, 2011, 07:22:52 PM »
I have two modification requests to the Spitfire that I feel are fair.  My apologies in advance if these have already been addressed.

1)  The Mark V,VIII,IX, and XVI and possibly others all used the 'c' wing until at least 1944.  One of the gun packages available were 4 20mm Hispanos.  Yes, you Spitfire haters might cry foul and perked, but it was a standard option and should be available in the game.  After all, do I whine when blown to atoms by the gondolas on a 109?

2)  The Mk VIII and later variants used the revised cockpit, with a cut-down rear fuselage and a bubble canopy.  This would be a great change to the models.  The Pony D has its bubble canopy, Spitfire enthusiasts deserve theirs.

Sincerely, SEsunDvl

Fine with me, but for the love of god, it should be added as a separate aircraft and not replace the current aircraft.

The same goes for the current Spit V and the aircraft it replaced. :uhoh

Please oh please search 4 cannon Spitfires and their actual use.  Also search the board as to when the bubble canopy was introduced during the war.

This has been asked many times.  I'm a Spit history fanatic but the last thing the game needs is 4 cannon bubble top Spit that wasn't there

Spitfires are why I subscribed to the game back in 2000.

I vote a definite "No." to these requests.

2 things, the B's Malcom Hood in my opinion is better than the Pony D's Bubble...

Now that my digression on the 51s is done...

Many, MANY, 109 pilots, both in real life and in game, HATED/HATE the gondies on a 109.
that and like dan said, research the 4 Hizooka usage in WWII on Spitfires <S>

take a hurricane 2c, set the convergance out to 600, do the same with a 190A-8 go in the TA or offline and use the .Target set the target at 600, and see why 4 or 3 Mg 151's is not the same as 4 hispano cannons

I read that Gunther Rall hated the gondola mounted 20mms on the 109s. He only flew with the single nose 20mm and the MGs. He had 275 kills and was the 3rd all time scoring ace I believe. Two more 20mms on the Spitfire would also effect its performance. I can only find one ground attack squadron that even used a Spitfire with four 20mms in Italy in 1943.

not to belittle ww2 pilots but he wouldnt last 2 seconds in ah.  how pilots fought in ww2 have little resemblance to how the game is played here.  can you imagine him getting shot down by a plane that was 200 yards in front of him due to lag?
