Win 7 vs Win XP
« on: June 07, 2011, 09:25:09 AM »
I usually use windows XP for AH but since the hard drive kicked the bucket I've had to go to some other computers to check my work.  I was using my grandfathers new computer which runs Windows 7 and I imidiatly noticed some things that seemed off.  To start, I couldn't even veiw the skin in the game even though I had downloaded the High res texture pack.  I have no clue why it didn't work, but I was assuming it was because there was not skins folder after the initial download.  Does that make sense?

The second thing I noticed is that compared to the computer I have now, the skins on planes are exessively "shinny"  I don't know if that is just because of a newer graphics driver or not but I'm sure skuzzy would know.  I tried taking a screen shot of it but it didn't turn out (shift + Print Screen).  I can describe it though, it looked basicaly like a solid white line running along the area of the plane that was exposed to the sun, and you couldn't see any of the details under the line.  It was vaugly noticeable on the win XP computer but it was still there.

I still use XP so I haven't had this problem. However IIRC its not a good idea to install AH in the "program files" folder when using Vista or Win 7. Windows tends to move AH's files all around the hard drive if you install it there.

different system, different monitor (perhaps), different video card settings.  I have two monitors from two different manufacturers hooked up to the same system/video card.  the game looks different on each monitor.

you dont want me to ho, dont point your plane at me.

Hi-res texture pack is only hi-res defaults. It does not include skins. You must download those separately, or check the box in the hangar.

As for the shiny effect, it has been noticed on some planes and may be a slight bug with the recent version. If it's more than just a little, it is possible it's some sort of wierd graphics driver bug.
