Ignoring the peanut gallery, I think there is room for improvement in how pilot wounds are handled.

Not all wounds were fatal within a few minutes, but many would reduce the force a pilot could apply to the stick.  Some kind of variation with more possibilities would be a good improvement in my book.

Like this:

I'd prefer that the pilot damage to be modeled like aircraft damage.

Examples.

Shot in left arm:  No use of left arm controls

Shot in right arm: No use of right arm controls

Shot in left leg: No rudder controls or left wheel brakes

Shot in right leg: No rudder controls or right wheel brakes

Shot in body:  Progressive black out; black haze fills the screen until you go to full black and die.

Shot in head:  Progressive black out; black haze fills the screen until you go to full black and die.

Hard thing to model really.

Sakai was shot in the head, and did black out several times, but flew for hours back to Rabaul.  Most times a bullet to the head is rather instantly fatal, or at least produces immediate unconsciousness from which the injured never wakes up.

A .303 to the leg that passes through the femoral artery would be rapidly fatal.
