Rampaging Rooks of Retribution - Looking For Realists
« on: May 23, 2001, 01:14:00 PM »
Fellow Rooks;

Here is a thumbnail of what the Rampaging Rooks of Retribution are all about.  Should you be a Nit or Bish and like the idea then feel free to steal it or switch countries and join us.  The bottom line idea is to make the game more fun by attempting to more closely emulate the way a real life military force would operate.

The overall mission of the RRR will be to protect the Rook homeland inflicting as much damage as possible on our enemies and heavy retribution to anyone who defiles our homeland..

The primary requirement for membership are mature (in mind)  team players who put the welfare of  Rooklandia and their squadron foremost.   This may not be the place for somebody who is interested in a high scores, though we strongly suspect that if you apply our tactics you’ll live longer and score will come as a byproduct.

To be a member of the RRR’s, ability and experience are not as important as a willingness to abide by specifically laid out guidelines and proven military flight procedures as well as accepting direction from elected and volunteer leaders while engaged in squadron activities.  This simulates the average guy who gets a draft notice and is then pressed into service.  He will either die, survive or become a war hero.  However, on the way there, he will go through a lot of training in tactics and techniques to turn him into a finely honed killing machine.  Only time will tell.

It is our desire to attempt to replicate a real-world military environment as much as possible while injecting principles of democracy which will allow “all” members to take turns as a battle commander.  This is the only concession we make to the reality that this is in fact a game and not a matter of life and death.  Plans and orders are given and accepted because we know that  in order to win you must have organization for the common good.  This will be a squadron for anyone who has ever looked around the MA and thought, My God, what would have happened if we had left Schwartzkopf and Powell home and only sent grunts to lead us to victory.  No offense to the average soldier, but any intelligent human and student of history should know that wars are won through planning, tactics and strategy.  If you see value in a well disciplined and focused military force, then you’ll want to look at us.

You’ll see that we have rules but you’ll also see that there is nothing in our rules which will put you on KP or make you march punishment tours.  Our rules are simple, immerse yourself in the mission and think how would this situation be handled by a real-life counterpart during WWII?  Do the job at hand and let the master plan strategy for the entire arena to whomever is in charge that day.  Yes, it is our plan to figure out a democratic plan to jointly with other Rook Squadrons appoint an El Supremo commander to lead the entire nation on to victory.

Did I tell you it was going to be fun?  Well, it will be but mostly at the expense of enemies of the motherland.

Here's a link to our under construction webpage which presently includes our entire charter which will give you a complete picture of our plans.

Ever hear the adage RTFM as in read the friggin manual?  Well, evidently I had not and in reading it I'm getting a lot of ideas.  What would happen if we were able to plan coordinated raids to bring our enemies to their knees?  Have we ever seen this with any kind of regularity?  No?  It's because to blind the suckas for a long time you also have to attack their cities and factories.  A single buff raid to HQ just will not cut the mustard.  Need to get people to lead raids to the city and the factories and yes the HQ.  Blind them, keep 'em blind, fueless etc. and the war is yours.  Only way to accomplish this kind of damage is through strategic planning and coordination.  If you like the idea of being able to do this consistently, think about joining the Rampaging Rooks.
Thanks
Beeg

Well, Well!  Maybe the Rooks aren't ready for any kind of thought out campaigns.  Today I posted my first mission and only got 4 out of a possible 14 slots.  Tsk, Tsk.

Gentlemen;

Let me kick this up to the top in order to give you something for nothing.  I have posted two comprehensive reports on the bases in the Islands Terrain.  These HTML reports list all information in two different ways.  LATLO list all bases and targets in North to South and West to East latitude and longitude and BASES list bases and targets in numerical order lowest to highest.  Targets e.g. flak factories are assigned to the closes numbered base.  These reports can be used in conjuction with the neat maps posted by Snefens though I differ somewhat in some field elevations.

Having accurate information on targets is the first step in playing this game the way we Rampaging Rooks think it should be played. Nothing worse to me than arriving at our target base and the mission leader says "is this a big base"?

In the next couple of days we will post additional reports e.g. one listing time and distance covered and altitude gained at various TAS.

Hope you'll find benefit in these reports and should you agree that using tactics and strategy would provide for a more meaningful gaming experience then comb the MA for one of the two of us and discuss joining our merry band.  We also ask you to excuse the lack of finesse in our web page, that will come later.

We now have an additional page containing an excel spreadsheet for calculating time en route, altitude to be attained etc.
and we're still looking for realists.

Life goes on!  We're up to a close nit 4 and we still want YOU if you can adapt to our charter which you can check out in the link above.  We practice every monday and each of us takes a turn leading the squadron through missions on weekdays with weekends left for family or crazy activities (one of our guys actually thinks it's fun to jump out of airplanes, LOL).  We try to participate in other Rook missions as well and will shortly be reaching out to the Rook leadership to expand cooperation within the Rooks.
Come check us out.

Guess what? We only have 4 more slots open in the Eastern/Central Wing but if you're in any other time zone you can come in as XO and recruit 9 more to fill out your wing.  Check out our charter and let us know if you think the RRR is for you.

Still Looking!!! Tired of always following and never getting a chance to lead?  Can you take orders as well as give them?  Are you really a team player or only when it suits you?  Do you recognize the value of military discipline and tactics as a way of winning wars instead of battles?  Can you be loyal to Rooklandia instead of aimlessly searching for countries that fight the way you think they should?  C'mon, give the RRR a look-see.  Take a look at our charter link in first post.

Ah, yes, you're in luck, the RRR still has openings in the eastern/central time zone as well as in the GMT and Pacific time zones for XO's to grow the wings in those time zones.  Most important, we offer free uniforms as you will see in our website.
