ok. i moved the camera back a little to the left to place the 3 dots off a little.

this seemed to give me better responses to my movements like sik1 said.

i've loaded up a profile that dot was nice enough to share with me. i turned off the "Y" axis, and i turned off the "roll" axis. this seemed to help me with clearing the headrest.

i also found this write up by mace.....
http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/files/mace/Track%20IR%20PDF.pdf

according to that write up though, i should turn off "true view", and the trackir option in the view options in ah. i tried each off individually, and both off. bad idea. i think it's probably something that got changed in an update.

i did a little better, and wasn't losing cons so much tonight. i haven't flown this enough as yet to get accustomed to it, so it has to be the settings changes.

i was talking with bug in the arena. that conversation brought a couple of things to light too. besides having to "unlearn" the use of the hat switches, i also have to think about how and where to move my head to get the view i want. this takes too long in cartoon combat, and the fight is already lost at that point.

so we have
1) the curves. the speed at which your cartoon head moves from your real heads input.
2) unlearning the hat switch. this is a hard one. i won't unmap them,as if i gv, i'll need them
3)learning how/when/where to move your real head to make your cartoon head do what you want.
4) i think that the perception is different with the trackir, and if you;re not careful, you may maneuver too easily. this came to light, as i gave bug a stupidly easy kill...i asked him what i did wrong, and he mentioned that my maneuvers looked "lazy". i thought i was pulling ;round harder, but obviously wasn't.

i got lucky, and scored a couple kills tonight, but they were only because i'm a sneaky bastage.  :devil i lost more than i won, but thanks to the changed settings, i was able to keep the con in my view more, even if it was the 6 view....the point is that i was able to see him back there, as he ripped me a new butt hole, which is a step in the right direction.

i hope that these are helping some of you guys. a couple guys in the ava tonight mentioned that they'd just gotten trakirs too.

It does take a while to get used to the TIR setup (about a month or 2 depending on amount of flying), but I would not fly without it anymore. Once you get it under control you'll be able to smoothly track a con ... even B&Z over-the-tops on a group of Buffs.

I forgot about Mace's write-up. His "Gunnery" explanation is pretty much what I tried to parrot in my previous post.

I finally got my bricked 500Gb HD replacement from Seagate and installed it.  I set it up outside my RAID array to use as a scratch disk for Photoshop and as the raw footage drive for Fraps.  Sometime in the next day or two, I'll record a couple of fights to let you see what I see how I see it.

Open Notepad and paste dhyran's code into it, save it with the .xml extension and you're done.

Just as he's posted it Cap, save it with a .xml extension, shove it in your profiles folder under natural point track ir and jobs a good un.

I also use a very aggressive profile (think a narrow V) so that I move my head very little. I put a small amount of dead zone in the Z axis so I don't get the head bob thing, smoothing is set to 68, and I turned roll off.
