That's a good visual and explanation, Ranger.  But...

What we're talking about is using an underwater texture and shallow water depth to make a nice gradual deepening of the water.  When you turn off some of the advanced graphics, the water is no longer recognizable as water - it looks like the underlying texture, in the case of my example sandy rock and riverbed.  Take another look at my earlier post with the clickable thumb of the five pictures.  Water no longer looks like water with low detail options selected.

I mentioned it because you can do the same for water color using the same method to make it look correct in low-res mode.  I'll post pics of what I mean this weekend.

Thanks Ranger I'm happy about that.
Be a shame if guys that are forced to fly low res would miss out and worse have it look like poop.

The "Change River Color" and "Change Ocean Color" buttons in that Terrain Type Settings box will change the color of your water in hi-res mode.

OK so  change with low detail box selected and high detail will like the same but low detail will change to  new altered state?

Where do you find or how do you export the terrain/water texture files?

It's not very intuitive, but go to the Elevations tab and find the button called "Save Textures".  It will put all the texture files in the "savedtex" folder in your terrain's folder.
