Intact elevator trim for 109s, 190s, when elevators gone

The 109/190s worked trim by shifting the entire surface up or down. The elevator could be completely removed and you would still be able to trim up or down. The surface was hinged along the rear end and a screw system was used to mechanically shift the forward section up or down to change the angle of the stabilizers.

Attempting to fly back to base in the scenario with no elevators in a Fw190A8 I was really wishing we had this for 3-4 sectors. It's not the first time I've wished for it. It won't be the last (unless HTC grants said wish, in which case I stop wishing and start enjoying).

Can you please model the trim on these planes specifically to still work when elevators are shot off? It's not going to be any sort of magic bullet or any solution that lets you easily fly without the elevators. It will still take skill. It simply adds a fighting chance and is historically specific to these 2 planes. (3, if the Ta152 followed suit? I cannot attest to this, so have left it out)

forgive my ignorance but...how do you move something that doesn't exist once it's shot off?

also, wasn't the adjustment that you're referencing something that had to be done manually on the ground? i know there was a trim tab on the 109s that had to be adjusted on the ground, but i can't remember if it was the horizontal or vertical stabilizer...

You've already asked this before and gotten an answer too:

On the 109 (and the 262, by the way) the entire horizontal stabilizers were shifted up or down to trim them out. This is how they could pull out of high speed dives after the elevators stopped responding.

The hinge point was right in front of the elevators, and the front had a mechanism that shifted the leading edge up or down based on what the pilot trimmed it to in the cockpit.


I'm not saying it happens often, but if you were to lose your elevators in a 109, you should retain trim capability for the pitch axis.


Like I said, it doesn't happen often, but it's a wishlist item I've had for a while.

I don't know of many craft that did it this way. Messerschmitt seems to be the only one that did this.

We just happen to jam the trim pulley when the elevator breaks.
