why do I BEG for a laserrangefinder-less icon...

The D11 is a different issue I'm not discussing here. But in other threads I've stated my opinion on it anyway.

About the film, no, I wont have tried to take that shot with no rangefinder. Had I missed the shot, that La7 would've sent me to hell in the dive he was about to start. I dont like to be rope-a-doped  :)

And in fact I went up for the shot because I knew I was dead anyway with all those cons coming up for me. Had we been alone I would have tried to force him to burn more E. That film doesnt show the opening stages of the fight vs the La7, neither it shows the previous fight I had one on one vs a N1K2. We were alone, and just after I killed the N1K, this La7 showed up coming for me with alt and speed advantage. Then the rest came up too  ;).

And I stand in what I said, the P47D25 is a plane NOT to be underestimated. I happen to like it  :)

I happen to agree about the icosn issue. Just not the planes.  ALL the AH aircraft can get long range hits if someone gets even minimal gunnery skills or just wants to blow thier whole wad of ammo at a fleeing con.
My number one wish would be for AH to have icons with NO range indicator at all. I've always thought (before WW2O ever came out) that semi transparant icons was the way to go. Going from lighter to darker in opacity as range increased and decreased. No digital read out and no analog representation.

In general and to no one in particular about gunnery: I find it hard to believe anyone wants to ask for more UNrealism? We already have "combat trim" and "automatically retracting" flaps? I vote to keep gunnery and ballistics as real as it can be. IMO folks need to learn to adjust to it the AH realistic ballistics just as they would if shell range or impact damage were adjusted for <coughhblowme> gameplay. There are other games out there that make that concession, amongst others like adding 'mush'. Those people 'there' piss and moan about "bb guns" as well as "d6" shots versus "d2". So the argument never ends anyway no matter what gets done.

Aw RAM, that's sweet.  Yer making me blush!   :)

I think it'd be nice if the icons either displayed less information, or better yet disappeared all together once you get within 1k of the enemy aircraft.  Not because of however the icons do or don't affect gunnery or their perceived "gameyness", but because I think it'd add to the immersion factor a little bit.  Maybe I'll try this manually for the next day or so when I'm online to see if it really does add something to immersion or if it just sucks.   :)

I like the lower icon settings in CT.

It would be neat if one of the icon settings could be "no range under d1".  I'd like to see that in the CT and even in scenarios.  Would probably take more coding by HTC tho; probably back burner.

Probably not in the MA tho.

When did the N1K2 and the LA-7 get added into the planeset for the Combat Theatre?  I guess I need to check that one out if I can fly my UFO in there now too.

Oh wait...you mean you werent in the CT?  I thought all these "I want realism" whiners were going to stay in the CT?  I mean, after all, HTC gives you a place to play with no dweebery and you still wont populate it?

The MA is what it is and it definitely isnt the place for no icons or whatever.  If you want that stuff, show up for scenarios....or go fly all by yourself in the CT.  I guess the CT wasnt exactly the savior that you all thought it would be, huh?

hijacked already :)

RAM, you are way too emotional man. I do not agree with half of what you psot about. As a personanlity within the game you are humorous and OK. But you got this tag of whiner (rightfully so) and you have lost alot of credibility too. Sorry, I dont tkae it seriously. Heres an idea. Try one issue at a time. The "rangefinder" icon is a valid point that alot of regulars will agree with. That issue stands alone. Dont add the whine about the ammo, or the tangent about the torque model of the jug or whatever. You are like a bucket, just dumps everything at the toss of the hat.

and... save your cursing for something that really matters like life, not AH :)

I think it's funny.... you show one film and expect it to prove to all of us that the long range shots happen..

Yes, they do happen. Like they did in the real war.

You know what else? They happen rarely.

You have ONE (1) film showing me that you finally got ONE (1) good long range shot on film.

Out of how many kills does anyone average at 700-800yards?

If you can't produce the results consistently and repeatedly, then save it for someone who gives a toejam.

I don't know what difference range listing on icons had there, he was stalled out and motionless, would have been dead no matter what.
