two monitors
« on: March 08, 2011, 10:08:59 AM »
I have been playing on my laptop for awhile now since my desktop is on a permanent furlough. I have an external monitor hooked up but I am  unable to split the screen. Do I need software or hardware for this ?

What do you mean split screen?? Having the monitors show the same thing or split screen where both screens show different items??

We need a little more description of what you want.

sorry, different screens, splitting the view over 2 monitors if that is possible.

For Windows XP:

Windows 7:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/organization/twomonitors.aspx

EDIT:
Just saw your second post, if you mean using something like ATI's "Eyefinity" to be able to see more area when playing in game, the above links won't do anything for you.  Spreading across two monitors in video games splits up the center of the screen anyway, which is usually the aiming point, so it becomes a hindrance.

However, the above will be good for productivity purposes!  I love having dual monitors...

If by 'split' you mean having half of your view on one monitor and half on the other.. yes it may be possible but a laptop's video chip isn't likely going to perform very well under those circumstances, and it wouldn't be very effective anyway.  Well for normal windows use it may be useful but for Aces High.. it's either go three or let it be.

If by 'split' you mean having your gunsite on one monitor and gauges on another... no not possible.  Yes I know some people may argue that it "can" be done, but for realistic purposes we'll just say no.

I gotta throw this in. From personal experience, I did not like dual screens for Aces High II.  It drove me absolute bonkers that the pipper was right in the middle. The hard part was the fact that there was a gap where the bezels were. Now I tried it both ways, half gunsights on either side, & no gap with pipper in dead space and hated both.
That is why Triplehead2go was the way to go. While I still haven't found the "kill every enemy in my path" button, I would not even try it with just two monitors. As a matter of fact, if on of these were to go kablooey, I would probably just leave it in triple setup and have one of the side views dead.
