Filmviewer Missing Custom Sounds - Workaround??
« on: March 08, 2011, 03:49:21 PM »
Working with limited resources and not enough time to do anything about it, so besides running a capture program in the background during flight, is there any other known work around that you guys use for capturing custom sounds in films.

Is this problem unique for me when using custom sound packs or is everyone else missing engine sounds in filmaker now?

I think the film-viewer is full of bugg's IMO.. The whole thing needs a work-over.  Hard to capture anything worth posting these days.  :old: :headscratch:

I'm having the same problems. I can hear the engines and gun fire of others (well, mine too) but I can't hear anything else.

Are these problems generic or sound card related? or are they unique to custom sounds added to the sound folder?  I have several custom sounds and wondering if it is worthwhile to grab them all and save them somewhere and try just game sounds or are there still problems?

Thanks for the replies.  I am promoting a film contest this week and the gods may be against me.

I am not hearing any engine sounds through the film viewer. Only Vox and bullets, explosions.  This has been happening on my end for about 3 weeks now. :bhead
Could just be me however, I think gremlins live in my Pc's tower... :salute

Same problem for me too.
Last time in film viewer was several versions before the B29 update. It was working then.

do you think it could be because HTC added the miles sound system and then again disabled it in the last patch or so recently?

Moved all the custom sounds to another folder and left sounds folder empty.  Default sounds do play in the film viewer.  I am going to have to capture the sounds with gun cam and edit the films, for a work around.

At least for now the default sounds play.  Just weird that the Ju88s and the P38s sound the same to my ear.

I have a nice trick for you chilli

Open film viewer and leave it not playing anything.

Open fraps or your other capture method.

Open youtube and search for clips with aeroplanes and guns shooting.

Now, to make it work you have to play the youtube clip in the back ground then click on the still film viewer. You can now record the sounds off youtube (not the video) whilst recording the blank screen in the film viewer. When you edit your sound clips you will see a still image of the tower from the idle filmviewer and you should have recorded the sound form youtube too. Discard the video and you have your sound sample.

Like this you can capture all your sounds fresh using original real life clips. Search for '109 fly-by' on youtube for shots where a 109 flies past, etc. If you get stuck for gun sound you can record the samples in-game and again discard the video section and use the audio. You can fake the effect of planes flying past shooting and doppler effects by sitting on the runway and holding fire whilst zooming in and out and using the F5 pan view to move all round the sound source.

I have been messing around with adding each individual sound to the film using sony vegas.  it's not hard to do, .  you can do some really cool sound effects simulating surround sounds.  I use the sounds from the available sound packs.
