I have a very hard time keeping track of cons when maneuvering. Unlike in MA, there's no padlock in AvA, a feature wich I use intensively once I found my tgt. How do you guys manage?
ok...i'm home now, so i can type a little more detailed answer.
first off....if in low alt fights....it's best to be below your enemy. it's harder for him to see you, easier for you to see him.
if you don't use trackir, you're gonna have to learn to use your hatswitches. get in close, and stay there. don't let the con more than D800. at that point, you can still see him for the most part, and you can still hear him.
this is another key. listen. you can hear other planes a long way off. if you've got a custom soundpack(i use twinbooms), it's pretty easy to tell a damiler from an allison, or a merlin.
also listen for guns. same thing....you can hear which direction they're coming from, and you can tell by the sound if they;re friendly or not.
flying lone wolf is a generally bad idea....i should know...i die that way a LOT. tulips a situation BEFORE you barrel into the fight,. in a furball.....it's just like in the mains, cept you're not gonna have those big red "shoot here" banners. if you're using padlock in the mains, i would think that that'd hurt sa more than help, as even in the mains, i tend to look around a lot. why? because i tend to get so fixated, that i do often get snuck up on.
this arena is for the most part no harder than other arenas......it's just more fun.
