Sun glare realism
« on: March 19, 2011, 02:41:21 AM »
If I was in a real airplane a clip-board would block the sun better than moving my head behind the airframe around the canopy. :bhead

Sounds like you're having trouble with the left and right arrows.

If it was a real airplane, there would be no clipboard map....   :uhoh

You use to be able to do that. People would shrink the notebook down to "just" cover the sun to be able to have a clean view negating the advantage an enemy "might" use by diving at you out of the sun. It was considered "gamey" and removed.

It would be nice if you could position the pilot's hand to block the sun.

or squint or something. that would be a hard choice. block out the sun and miss someone coming at you from whichever side, or leave the sun and see everything?

And lose half the stick force while holding it up?

If you need both hands on the stick the sun isn't likely to be stationary in your view.

I've had it happen often enough that I don't think it's a negligible detail.  I regularly try to dive in from the sun myself.

The best solution IMO is to get trackIR, that's what real pilots would use if cockpit bars were enough to block the sun.

Don't real pilots already look around by moving their heads?

real pilots used trackIR to fly?   :lol   :rofl   that was wide open, couldn't resist.

next time you're out on a clear day with the sun blazing away, put a 2 inch thick stick in front of you at arms length and try to block the glare with it...then go look at the way some of the canopies are made...a pilot would not be loosening his safety harness enough to try and block the sun with a piece of the canopy framework.
