is this a computer game or real life?

What does your question have to do with whether or not B-17 pilots wore noise cancelling headsets?  I mean, other than to raise your post count that is.

Actually you can hear the doors operate...or at least you can when wearing a noise canceling headset.

Did B-17 pilots wear such headsets during the war?

Nevermind, found the answer.

lol ack ack...the answer is yes, i a manner of speaking...anything that covers your ears muffles external sounds...as you can see in the pics (wwii german pilot helmet), the radio headphones built in to the helmet covered the ears:

of course in a bomber like the b-17, aside from the engine noise, the pilot would not be able to hear the bomb bay doors with his helmet on.

the term "noise cancelling" actually refers to modern microphones...where background noises are electronically filtered, not the speakers that cover your ears.

When I said noise canceling I was referring to an Active Noise Reduction headset (electronically reducing the ambient noise).  Wearing an ANR headset actually makes it so you can hear MORE sounds in the aircraft.

Those WWII era headsets and helmets did very little in the area of hearing protection/noise reduction.

You determined this from your many hours flying a real B-17?

i determined it from wearing a vintage wwii pilots helmet in a b-17 and a b-25 with the engines running...i didn't fly either...from the cockpit you don't hear the bay doors open/close.

Then I have to assume the ANR headset enabled me to hear the door operate.

The logic written into the game has two states for the bombay doors but the graphics depict them changing from completely closed to completely open.  A delay would need to be written in to prevent the bombs from releasing until after the doors were completely open.

I kinda like it the way it is just so I can calibrate with the doors closed if I can remember to open them before dropping my bombs.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.
