LOL, it is not even a Me109. Notice the position of the exhaust.

109s don't use Merlin engines. ;) The Hispano Aviación HA-1112 does.

No. Its derived from the 109 but its a competely different beastie (Hispano HA.1112 Buchon). This is either Harold Beals or Charlie Browns (not sure which is owner) Hispano N109W but for this guy to compare it to actual 109s is just wrong. For one thing the design of the plane incorporates an offset fin to compensate for engine forces. Spain never changed that design even though they then put a Merlin in it when their license built engines didnt work out. Galland himself flew the Buchon during the filming of the BoB and indicated to the film makers that it would be a very bad idea to allow their pilots to fly the schedule (meaning stunts) they had planned. The Buchon according to him was (and is) a dangerous plane in the wrong hands (for the pilot). Of course it wasnt a stunt pilot but Robert Shaw that nosed over a Spit after applying too much brake and the director ordered that it be left upended as a prop. Nevertheless one of the Buchons was ground looped on the first day of filming and had to be written off.

Mark Hanna who was one of the best sticks in these types was killed flying a Buchon
