Questions for the AVA community
« on: April 01, 2011, 11:46:47 AM »
1). would you be interested in joining a organized mission
a. every night
b. almost every night
c. whenever possible

in the AVA using existing setup conditions, co-ordinated by a live person?

2). would you be interested in joining auto-setup missions that give you and your friends the option to fly, but back-fill extra slots with AI pilots. the missions would be pre-set targets or escort missions or whatever, if the technology where there for us?

3). of the first 2 questions, which one would you prefer.

1. Very rarely for the same reasons CAP stated.
2. Why ask we don't even have that option?

Instead of one way or the other, how about a combination?

If we had the ability, I'd like to see the 2nd option run during the daytime, so that night workers etc, who don't get a shot at special events would be able to fly large historical missions provided that AI fill only the slots unclaimed by human players, so that if the daytime concept grew, you would have fewer and fewer AI and they would become relegated mostly to non-fighter roles

That way you could still have the uncertainty of not knowing when you might run up against real pilots and make it different and potentially more exciting than just flying offline missions.

I would be OK if this type of mission system were to automatically disable during prime time for "freestyle" play.

#2...if and when it becomes a feature.

Run them every couple of hours or whatever.  When the arena is basically empty it would give you something to do.  You can join them or not; you can fight against them or not.  Even if there are more people in the arena, it gives them opportunities to practice escort/intercept tactics.

Once a week would be fine with me

#2 but.. both have their place

I'm with Dot +1 The AI would get replaced with humans as the arena filled up anyhow and there would be less stop and start so the flow of game play would not get interupted to much.
..

4. Fly the freak'n Claw!!!

Shifty, really this is a historical setup.  I think it is called the second British Invasion.  :D

Sorry Jaeger,

I hope this doesn't hijack the thread.  Auto Setup Missions are good.  :aok  Objectives are laid out, like the "Tobacco Factory" and players are free to complete the mission.

Since we are kind of fantasizing.

I have two options that I would support,  If we had the ability to do them.

#1

 A.  Automated, AI supplemented missions that run only during the off hours and auto disable for primetime freeplay.

 B.  Unscripted freeplay throughout the week during primetime.

 C. Live CM coordinated missions either weekly, biweekly, occasionally or whenever.

The CM could use a mission generator like the mock up below where he could choose to enable any number of AI or none at all, or he could use no such tool at all at his discretion.

A.  Automated, AI supplemented missions that run in the background all the time, independent and optional of any other activity going on.

B.  Live CM coordinated missions either weekly, biweekly, occasionally or whenever.

I think that would be cool and its a good Idea. Fresh ideas  :aok

Hope we can have that some day.

For now what about Something we can implement soon:

 I'm working on a terrain
It  will have several different "attackable" "bombable" objects placed thoughout the map.. Ie. ships, tanks, Artilley,Villages, ect. that can be used as targets.
All my future terrains will be tooled like this..

This way if a set up designer wants to revolve a set up around for instance attacking a tank column they can.
Simply list it in the brief: EXP. Axis: attack tank columns in grid 9,9 x 7 Allies defend tanks In grid 9,9x7 Along with any other targets they decide to use.
That is just a fast watered down example.

Folks can work toward objectives if they wish as an attack defend type thing 24/7 automatically W/O any intervention.

This way the players can do many things at once in the arena
if they choose they can have a squad match and utilize the targets as an objectives. Or the population as a whole can play the set up as attack defend with the included targets by following the  orders/script in the brief .
Or the players can just furball if they choose to not participate in a mission.

That way there is a smoother and uniterupted flow to the arena, without somebody "on duty" so to speak to constantly man the helm.

Kind of 24/7 FSO concept but by choice not mandatory..
