Perkies and Disco's-Crashes!!
« on: April 01, 2011, 01:56:31 PM »
What is the deal with being in a Perk ride when you suffer a Crash-Disco?

The internet is what it is and I as of late suffer from just random total crashes, not the usual TCP loss but, just total blam "aces high.exe stopped working"/ elvis has left the building dumps.

No biggie but, it's getting about every 4th time I run a perked ride getting a disco-crash. Last night just tooling along in a Tempest and blam. Log back on today and 53 perks out of fighter. That and B-29 disco's really suck.

I know that due to cable pullers, it can't reset automatically but isn't there some other happy medium or method to deal with this?

You need to understand that once the game abnormally terminates, there is always a chance of a config file becoming corrupt.  Once that happens the game will no longer be stable.

The folders that this can happen in are: settings, sounds, ahiiterr, and/or films.

Only way I ever found is to learn to fly crappy planes so you earn perks faster than you lose them. :)

question on this one.......

if this has happened, is it then best to just uninstall, then reinstall the game fresh?

also.......is there an advantage to downloadingf the game fresh, as opposed to just updating when the updates come out?

If an abnormal crash occurs and the game still appears to be stable afterwards, I would not be concerned about it.  If the game started exhibiting stability issues, I would nuke (remove) the entire folder and do a fresh install.

What I do is make a copy of the hard stuff that does not change.  I save off the head positions (*.hps) and stick stuff (*.jsm) to a CD, after I have it all configured.  Then it is less painful to remove the game and reinstall it.

It is not enough to use the Windows remover.  You need to remove the folders from the computer and then install a fresh copy.

I have not had to do a reinstall on mywork computer at all.  It has been patched from V1.04 to the current version and is still stable.  Patches do not make the game unstable, unless you get a corrupt patch (running Norton or any anti-xxx during the patch download/install can cause it).  Actually, having Norton installed in Vista or Windows 7 could cause corruption as there is no way to stop it from doing what it does.  All you can do is stop it from reporting what it does.
