gyrene the M-10 had the 3" gun. thats the equivalent to the M4/76's 76mm gun. all it was was heavier than the later 76mm.

the reason the M-18 came out was to create a TRUE tank destroyer. it took the new 76mm cannon (lighter), had a new torsion bar suspension, a solid transmission, and a great engine, and virtually NO armor. the epitome of what a tank destroyer was supposed to be <S> kill or be killed
my mistake, thought the main gun was a converted wwi 75mm aa gun...

It would take a jarhead to to flame a simple post, I don't really care about GVing. But i do have the number of kills credited to the M10 if you would like it.
you have the number of m10s kia as well? i'm thinking the stug, jagdpanther and hetzer were more important tank destroyers to the germans than the m10...just as important as the su85, su100 and su122 were to the russians.

They could do some things to work tank destroyers into the game such as perk all tanks, giving tank destroyers a lighter perk value.

Better yet, they could make it so that only TD could be spawned at a field for defensive roles, and both tanks and TD be available at spawns for offensive roles.

The difference in tanks and TD's besides armor was the ammo while tanks had AP rounds the TD's were issued a "HOT" round that was only issued to TD units, but tank crews would try to trade or barter for the hot rounds.

The lion's share of the specialized AP rounds used by US tank units (APCBC, HVAP, and APHE rounds) were prioritized by units.  The tank killer and anti-tank artillery units would receive the greater number of AP and specialized AP rounds since the main role of these units was anti-armored warfare.  The regular tanks weren't given priority since their main role throughout World War II was infantry support and as such majority of the rounds loaded were for this intended role.  Not to say that regular tanks weren't provided with AP or specialized AP rounds, they were but just not in the quanity allocated to tank killer and anti-tank artillery units.  It was usually the regular tank crews that would scrounge and trade for the specialized AP rounds from the tank killer and anti-tank artillery units.

One more thing...the specialized AP rounds used by the M-10 were the ones I listed above, Armor Piercing Capped Ballistic Cap,  High Velocity Armor Piercing, and  Armor Piercing High Explosive rounds.

The Stug was not a true tank destroyer due to its limited traverse it was an assault gun pressed into service as a tank destroyer on the Russian front .

its all good :aok you got me a couple of times on incorrect statements a week or two back :ahand

a good tanker does NOT take hits. therefore, using a TD increases those chances of not being shot from ground targets, but decreases survivability overall. each vehicle really depends on preference... personally i do alot better with shoot and scoot tactics on a battlefield than i do sitting hull down shooting everything (unless im in my tiger... man do i love landing 40 kills :D ) and the M-18 would be what i would need to accomplish such a task

Maybe we got the Panther we got so that the best German TD - Jagdpanther - would be most different.  Top speed in particular.
