Looking for vox configuration advice/help troubleshooting
« on: April 28, 2011, 11:20:37 PM »
I'm experiencing certain problems with vox comm. Mic is set right in windows (xp sp3), volume is maxed out, boost is on. I can hear myself just right in windows recorder. In game, mic volume is maxed out. Now i tuned radio 5 to myself to test it out and voice comes quite loud but all garbled with missing syllables everywhere. If I stick the mic to my mouth most sounds will come out FUBAR cause the hard consonnant like 'P' and 'T' are cut out like they flood the mic. Further away and it's not loud enough to be even picked-up. And amazingly if I old on to the mic with my hand closed around it, it seem that it's acting like a sort of baffle that concentrate sound in the mic and quality goes way up. Only thing is it's not easy nor desirable to have to let go of the throttle every time I want to speak. Now I fiddled quite a bit with windows and ingame setting, tried most option beside lowering acceleration and sample rate below 3/4(did tried to lower them 1 notch to see). I'm totally out of idea here. Any thoughts?

Rig is an venerable PIV 3.4GHz 2Go ram, with a geForce 9400gt and old soundblaster from way back(could check what model, I'm on the wife PC's). Game works very smooth with Frame rate in the 40-50ish but I couldn't get this vox thingy to work even if my life depended on it.

I'll end with the timeless word of Homer J. Simpsons : I'm normaly not a praying man. But if your out there : SAVE US SUPERMAN!

(well that one was totally uncalled for... )

LOL   :salute

...and your running the mic through the soundblaster card not through a USB headset right? USB pushes the CPU and with the game already trying to use as much of the CPU it can it could really screw up your vox on a "venerable" system

If you are on the soundblaster, you might try it with out the boost on. You may be over modulating the vox.

I'm starting to beleive it soundcard related as i've seen quite bit of people having recording problems with this particular card. In hardware test, the bar barely goes up even tough i'm blasting my ears through the headset... might try another one... i'll see...
