Introduce ARVs (Armored Recovery Vehicles)
« on: May 02, 2011, 10:37:42 PM »
ARVS are what are shown below, Usualy lightly armed vehicles dedicated to bring a nearly out of service GV back into operation.  My thought is if we introduce vehicles like these in the game they will be like a mobile infinite amount of gv supplies (no ammo) and able to do much more.  Be Able to follow the fight, Using its equipment and crane to repair vehicles that were left behind in the advance yet out of the reach of the supplies when they had advanced previously.  Even the capability to perhaps tow a vehicle stuck for whatever reason (coastal mud) just have your tank commander aim at your friendly within 100y and pull the trigger.  You will see a tow cable appear and already attached to your vehicle and the front of his.  Pull again to release.  I cant tell you how many times iv tried and heard people try to drop gv supplies to defenders via goon or light gv, only to be killed in the matter of minutes, or to use a gv supply and tip again as soon as its used.  Or have a plane strafe your supplies or the enemy steal them.  I would hope this would add some interesting dynamics into the game.  Feedback and criticism welcome, flaming and hijacking not.

100k tow cable deployment...wow

question, though a nice idea did you happen to understand the idea of "lightly armored unarmed vehicle" on top of "slow"? if a "light gv" could get popped dropping supplies what chance do you honestly think a tank retriever intended for operations behind the front lines would have?

100 yard too long for ya?  I was trying to refer to the range system we have in flight so I thought it would be close enough.  As for your question, a halftrack or jeep can’t withstand a 20mm shell, Most AVRs being on tank chassis can, and Germans even had Tiger tank AVRS.  Most are still armed, just lightly; if you look at the pics closely you can see 50 cals on the Allied and a MG 42 on the axis.  Although cant dish out much power they can take much more than what we have.  Though still not a frontline combat vehicle, more of a support vehicle.  (Cant use a mortar against a guy with a pistol if he’s 2 ft away)

Skyguns... you might want to reconsider... 100k is halfway across the map. The BIG map.

Plus, -1000 for obvious reasons already posted.

EDIT: I think you mean 100 YARDS, not 100K, which means KILOMETERS...

:lol  don't sweat it bud...sometimes you just make it easy and if i see it first, i'm jumping on it. i see you edited your op too...good job  :aok

the cable spools on the tank retrievers (if they had one) only carried 150 - 200 feet of cable...chains were used more than cable for towing. they could if necessary, supply emergency fuel for a tank, and carry a small amount of ammunition. if this type of vehicle were to be put in the game, it would have to replace vehicle supplies for it to get used by more than curiosity seekers since it is so slow. even then, instead of instantaneous repair it would have to work like a field refueling pad...sit next to a broken down tank for at least 30 seconds.

it would still be a bit gamey but, for the sake of game play it would probably be acceptable...there would probably be whines about the loss of vehicle supplies for the existing gv's that can carry them.

I have to say it would be less gamy then a box that instantly fixes a tank. I say +1 for it but I think supplies should be left in but only reload ammo not repair to repair you need a ARV to fix you.

Naw...

I spent about an hour after logging on last night driving around in GV's trying to feel out the new system.  After a while I decided it was time to get back in my 'ol trusty (or was that rusty?) P-38G.  Spawn to the runway hit E, then I held down W...

Took me a good second or two to figure out why I wasn't rolling down the runway. :)
