The dog is lit from the right (from the perspective of the person who took the picture) and his body is casting a shadow on the ground to the left of him.
The helo is being lit from above and to it's front, from the back of the photographer based on the shadow on the underside of the belly of the aircraft. If it shared the same light source as the dog it would not be lit so well on its right side (left to the photographer).
