Cannot Even Connect To Game Manager

Just moved into employee housing where I work. They have a public internet service that I can easily connect to but I cannot connect to any game from it. I get the error "Unable to connect to game manager"

I am assuming this isn't Aces High at all but I was just hoping to get guidance on how to get around this. A friend mentioned that when he lived here he needed a program to help him get around the internet block so that he could play World of Warcraft.

I was connecting to my Droid 2 and playing through the 3g network before but I was excited about the option of having real internet for once.

Checked into my own ip address to see what I could find out and it offered the log in for a ap5131 motorola access point.

I figure I probably can't tamper with it but are there ways around this kind of stuff?

A firewall will cause the problem.  Some anti-xxx software might cause it as well.  I have seen SpyDoctor cause this, as well as Norton and McAfee.

I was trying to looking up different programs that would help with this but it was rather difficult. Some suggestions for people in similar situations with other games suggested things like NAT programs and VPNs.

Any thoughts?

 Like Skuzzy said it could be a built in AV program in the firewall limiting your ability to connect to the game. Also they may be a limit to the amount of bandwith as to which you are able to access. My place of employment has free wifi but it limits which website I can access. For example I cannot access wwe.com but I can access "other" sites??? What you might need to do is contact the IT and let him know what is going on and see if he or she can give you a bypass for the game and go from there, but be advised you may get poor performance from the game. The IT may also have to put in the game IP as a exception in the firewall.

Go see them and go from there.

Sounds like this "public internet" being provided is blocking known gaming sites to limit bandwidth usage.  They probably subscribe to some kind of whitelist/blacklist service to run through their proxy server or some "net-nanny" firewall program to keep people from spending all the upload/download byte total that they're providing.
