Windows 7 headset & mic help
« on: May 09, 2011, 05:33:54 PM »
Well, after using XP for almost 10 years, my antique PC was on it's way out when I fried another video card.  I purchased a new out of the box tower.

This is what I purchased;  HP AMD Phenom II X4 840T Processor, 2900 MHz, 4 core 4 Logic Processor.

Now that I managed to download all of my backed up files from my old system, I'm trying to get back into AH.  Everything is working fine with the exception of my mic.

I have a Zowie Hammer USB set.  For some reason, I can't get my PC to recognize the mic.  I'm new to Windows 7.  Any suggestions on how to get the mic to work would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
I have fought a good fight,
I have finished my course,
I have kept the faith.

My guess is drivers.  XP used directsound so just about anything plugged in that was designed to use directsound didn't need a driver.

When Vista came out (and shortly after, 7) directsound was eliminated which required each device to use their own specific driver.  I'd contact ZOWIE and ask for a link to their Win7 drivers since I can't find it on their website.

in windows 7 right click on the speaker icon by the clock. choose recording devices and make sure your mic is the default one.
