Gunner Position on M-3/75
« on: May 13, 2011, 07:02:00 PM »
Could you switch it from position 3 to position 2?

I have a button set up to jump from 1 to 2 on my stick. Works for all gvs but the M-3 with the 75.

Thanks.

1 is driver, 2 is main gun, 3 mg.  if ht changes then there will be a lot more of us confused as hell, ever noticed how the gunner positions are the same in all the buffs  :rofl.  set up another button for 3.  I allow for 4 positions in my stick.

That's my point.
1 is driver, on everything.
2 is main gun, on everything but M-3/75.
3 is observer/pintle gun on everything but the M-3 w/o the 75

On the M-3 w/o the 75, 2 is the pintle gun.  :huh

I have a button set up for 3. But, you're driving along in 1, I drive in 2 right now on the M-3, and you see something to shoot and you hit the same button as in any other gv and, for me, I'm already there. :furious  ;)

I agree I can do it now. That's always my argument about many wishes. It would just be more convenient if it was consistent with all the other gvs.

 :salute

If we swap then position 2 will be main gun or observer depending on load out.

Just checking to make sure that is what you are asking for.

I wish we could always set it up that way but we can't without making it worse with a standard loadout.  Unless HT figures out an easy way to tie some disparate systems together, gun positions can't be added or removed based on loadouts.  The guns are added and removed but the actual gun position that you jump to always remains.  In the M3, we just made the MG position double as an observer position for the 75mm.  It works better this way than the opposite and more people will use the M3 as a troop carrier than as a tank destroyer.  We tried it the other way with the MG and 75mm positions reversed and it's confusing.

This is why you can still jump to the nose gun position in a B-25C when you have a solid nose and there really isn't a nose gun position there.  If we could add or delete gun positions with loadouts, we could make the M-16 just another loadout option of the M3 instead of an entirely separate vehicle.  If we tried that now, it would just be very kludgy with 3 different gun positions that you could jump to but only 1 of which is actually active.  The truth is that we're stretching the pylon system well beyond what it was originally designed to do - adding pylons and bomb racks to planes when the appropriate weapons were loaded.

I had an idea.. Instead of using positions 2,3 for the main gun, pintle...
Instead, would it be possible to utilize 'secondary select'?

What I mean by this, 1 is driver/observer postion, 2 is the gunner position.
Backspace selects which gunner position you're seated in (IE main gun or
pintle).

This of course wouldn't apply to bomber aircraft well at all, but I thought
I'd share my crazy idea. Perhaps you guys at HTC can make something of
it.

For the M-3/75, yes that is what I'm asking for. 2=Main gun and 3=observer.

I can punch a 3 for the .50 M-3. There's less jumping around involved in that configuration.

Thanks.

edit: Had a thought. By making the M-3/.50 position 3 it would actually be the same position number as all the other gv "pintle" guns.
