There is a base angle computer that we lack here - it would take the course and speed of your target, your range to target and the speed of your torpedo and then calculate a solution for you as to what course you had to launch the torpedo on to score a hit.  Without that aiming computer here, it is extremely difficult to figure the angle needed to get a hit with a torpedo.  In aircraft, we pretty much just bore in close and let fly and point blank range.  In a PT boat though, it is pretty much impossible to get in that close unless someone is stupid enough to drive the CV over the PT spawn.

Yes, I've made PT attacks this way.  A couple of pictures in that thread are pretty unrealistic though - when is the last time you saw a PT that close to an enemy Cruiser that wasn't being blasted to bits by auto-ack or 5" fire?  The destroyers auto-ack would be blasting this PT boat to flinders long before it got inside the ring to launch a torpedo.

It is is one thing to figure a solution that works in the training arena, but really another to make it work in the MA.  The 'slow torpedo' used by our late-model PT boats is a variation of the Mk.13 aerial torpedo and was launched by the roll-off racks.  There was another type that used an impulse launcher (similar to a destroyer launcher in that the torpedo is spewed out) and these would fire the longer Mk.8 and Mk.14 torpedoes.  The Mk.8 mod 8 was good for 15,000 yards at 29 knots with a 466 lb warhead, but having a torpedo SLOWER than the CV group doesn't do us much good.  The Mk.14 has a 4,500M @ 46 knots setting with a 668 Lb warhead that might be a good fit, and I know via the manual that the launcher was supposed to be rated to handle it.
