What to do.

I have my windows saved on my 30GB HD SATA and I only have 2 Gs free.  I have a 1TB HD that I store everyything else on.  What should I do cause windows isn't updateding correctly since its running low.  Should I move Windows to the big drive or what?

Either you should clean up backups of service packs etc. from the windows drive or reinstall windows to the bigger drive. If you reinstall using the large drive you're going to see a good performance increase too unless the 30gb drive is a SSD. Furthermore that 30gb drive must be 15 years old already? It's a time bomb.

Which windows version are you talking about? Older windows setups might have trouble with the 1Tb drive, especially if the installation media doesn't even contain service packs.

never seen a 30gb sata drive...gotta be at least 10 years old. like ripley said, it's a time bomb, get rid of it. go buy yourself a new 500gb drive and reinstall windows on that...unless you want to go through some hassle trying not to lose everything you have on the 1tb drive you have now.

I could see a SATA 30GB... They have a number of smaller drives, the intent being the smaller the disc the faster the access speeds, and you RAID them together.

Then there are some that are small because they are built for durability and harsh temperatures...

Seagate makes an EE25.2 or somesuch like that, and it's as new as 2009 (if not newer) with a 30GB limit.

i think i know the one you're talking about krusty but pretty sure that's a 5400 rpm 2.5 inch drive...if it's the ee25 series.

Sounds about right for the seagate. It's new, though! It's not 10 years old  :aok

The thing is that they simply do not make 30GB drives anymore, especially not for a new computer!  I have a feeling that 30GB is partitioned off of the 1TB (1000GB) hard drive in which case you may be able to simply re-size the partition.  If you don't know, partitioning a hard drive turns one physical drive into two virtual drives.  If you took a 1000GB hard drive and made a 30GB partition off of it, the your computer would see two hard drives - one showing about 30GB and the other showing about 970GB (although some space will be lost in the process.. more like 26GB/940GB or so but that gets the idea across).

How about you post a DXDIAG so maybe we can see what's going on here?  I can't think of any manufacturer that would configure a new computer to run off of a 30GB partition, and ESPECIALLY NOT one that actually uses a 30GB hard drive.

is that an ssd ace? if it is that would be a tough call for me...personally i'd put everything i could on the secondary drive except the os...try disabling system restore and move your paging file off the primary drive to the secondary drive...that should clear up a good amount of space.

in windows 7 start > control panel > system and security > system > advanced system properties...that will bring up the box you need to access the settins for system restore and the paging file.

ya, c drive nothing but the os and maybe ah...move or disable system restore to the secondary drive and move the paging file to the secondary drive...then grab something like ccleaner and get rid of all the junk files that are safe to get rid of...uninstall any applications installed on the c drive that can be reinstalled to the secondary drive.

otherwise buy a bigger drive and use that little ssd for something else...you need a minimum of 20gb free hard drive space for windows 7 64bit.
