May 20-22nd JSOH Andrews AFB
« on: May 18, 2011, 05:39:33 PM »
The annual Joint Service Open House is this weekend!  :rock  Cannot Wait.  This is one of the best airshows around with flying and static displays from all of the services. Slightly disappointed as it doesn't look like there will be an F-22 flight demonstation on Saturday when I am going and only a flyover on Friday.  However I will put down some of the real cool static displays to be seen.  I highlighted the red ones but all of the mare so freaking cool.   :lol Btw "with equipment" means all their guns and night vision goggles you can pick up and play with.  This is a real good time.

That is an interesting list.  Wish I could be there to see it.  I do have a question what exactly is an Assault Kitchen?

:uhoh
I was thinking more along the lines of something like a Paladin but the howitzer isn't a cannon it's an oven exhaust.

Wow! What a great field of planes and equipment. I'm envious. Take pictures.

A hint I learned a long time ago re airshows - if there is some kind of tent/premium seating, it is worth every penny. You won't regret it.

Have a great time!

As far as I know in past years there has been the guard rail then the f-22s on the other side no premium.  However the premium is if you are military (or the dependent of one  :neener:) you can go onto the other side of the runway.  The best reason for that is the Thunderbirds/blue angels when they do their flying cannot fly over the main crowd but they can fly right over the other side of the runway.  I guess it is okay to crash into us but not the civilians (bad for recruiting probably).Nothing better than six f-18s or f-16s going vertical directly above you! As anyone knows it is about the noise  :rock.

C-123
L-21
OV-1

Those would be our aircraft. All three were supposed to leave this morning before Andrews closed down for the display teams to practice, but weather here were below VFR and SVFR conditions so we couldnt get out. However the pig left about an hour and a half ago and should be arriving in the next ten minutes there. The L-21 took off while the pig was doing its engine run ups, but its engine quit on climb out so it returned to base. Its being looked at as I type. We determined so far that there is a clog in the right fuel lines which previously it had been flown on only the left tank. If they can fix it within the next 15 or so minutes it will be departing to get down there as well. If its not a quick fix, then it wont be making it.

However the OV-1D had to be canceled on Monday due to a bad VOR. The pilot said that if it had been any other air show, he would have flown it, but he didnt want to do holds in Washington airspace with a GPS.
