Hunters of the Sky Documentary
« on: May 28, 2011, 07:07:32 AM »
This is my favorite WWII aerial combat documentary. I bought this series on VHS tape (13 tapes only available through mail order) about 15 years ago. Today I found the set on DVD at Sam's Club for $20. This documentary is strictly about fighter pilots of WWII. It is distributed by Questar, Inc. It has ALOT of interviews from the surviving fighter aces of all nations. Very interesting to hear interviews of Japanese and Russian fighter pilots as well as the normal American, English, and German. There is also quite alot of aerial footage you probably have never seen before. If you see it on the shelf I highly recommend getting it.

Be warned that you will probably go running to an AH arena after watching the first episode!

P.S. The bonus disks that includes a two hour documentary on WWII glider pilots would have been worth the price alone!

I have the first 4 tapes (2 episodes per tape), hosted by Cliff Robertson, and a special warbirds "Keep 'em flying" episode (shot at OshKosh, I think).
I don't have a VHS player anymore and would be happy to ship the lot to the first person who PMs me their shipping address and in game handle (I jsut wanna know who its going to).

Wholehearted agree with Edge - its great stuff - interviews with Aces like Galland, Sakai, Ken Walsh, etc.  Plus real war footage of the planes in action.
I've kept it for years because I can't bring myself to toss it, even though I already transferred it to DVD.
