Would someone please explain what "IN" means in context of the forums.

"IN" is short for IN before the Lock , I think. There is a certain appeal to get a post 'IN' before it gets Skuzzified or HTCified by another HTC employee.
Generally speaking the person posting such a post tries to get the word 'IN' in there somewhere. Some hide it withIN the post and others do the short and and sweet method of just typing 'IN'.

Also, by posting the IN you are also letting the original poster (or whatever poster said something that will cause a locked thread) that you think he is a moron and said something he shouldn't have said.
