This is an incredible video, <S> Endeavour and her crews! :rock

Edit: while I'm on the topic of spacey stuff, this video rocks.  Watch this.  HD, full screen and high volume are mandatory.

Edit2: And this.  And this for Discovery's last launch.  I think I'll stop with the links now :P

The Ascent Highlights brought tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my skin.  This is why I will join up with the astonaut program the first chance that I get.

I have two in-laws that work at NASA. One is a safety manager for SAIC, and the other is a project manager for NASA.

I have met many people in the space program including astronauts, flight directors, engineers, trainers, ect. This video is really well done, and it brings a lot of memories back that I will never forget.

The biggest accomplishment we have gained through the Shuttle program, is the ISS. Not just the ISS itself, but the concept that we have the ability to assemble vehicles in orbit. We do not have to no longer assemble the vehicle on the ground and send it up, we can now send it piece by piece then assemble in space. The possibilities are ENDLESS with this accomplishment, MASSIVE spacecraft with the ability to travel vast distances with large payloads.

It gives me goosebumps thinking about that!

Excuse me for being disagreeable...  :D but I disagree.
I think the greatest accomplishment of the Shuttle program is the Hubble space telescope.  The shuttle was and is the only vehicle capable of getting the Hubble into its very high orbit, and the only vehicle capable of getting astronauts to it to service it.     The ISS is cool, and we have learned a lot from the research happening there, but what we've learned using Hubble is truly mind-bending-makes-your-brain-hurt-to-thing-about-it kind of stuff

The scientific knowledge gained using Hubble could fill its own library, not to mention the pictures which just make you go  :O

I think the ISS was more a accomplishment of all the space programs not just the shuttle program. I agree with you

The hubble space telescope is an amazing piece! I will not disagree with that!

But it's not the ISS itself, it is the concept of being able for THE FIRST TIME IN HUMAN HISTORY to assemble a space vehicle while in orbit. Not just any vehicle but a vehicle in which humans can live on and travel with! This has never been done before! The ISS would not have been without the Shuttle program, NASA was the only space agency in the world with a vehicle with the capability to lift heavy cargo AND humans with the ability to return to earth.

The concept of assembling vehicles that humans can live in and travel while in space means we can build massive spacecraft with the ability to cover huge distances, mars anyone? Or even colonies in outer space? A new way to live off of earth? This concept is the biggest achievement that the Shuttle program has brought us. The ability to assemble vehicles in space.

Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.
