I think what y'all are talking about is when the round penetrates armor but it doesn't hit any critical components and goes out the other side of the tank. I believe this was implemented because it used to show a ricochet when the round didn't hit anything critical. For instance you would have Tigers shooting M3's from a very short distance and it would show that your round ricocheted off but in reality it was penetrating but not hitting any critical components in the M3. But it was implemented for all tanks and not just the M3. I think this is why but I could be totally wrong.

Red, if you are TOO close to the tank while firing AP rounds at a high velocity the round will fly straight through the tank altogether. this is why tigers and KTs sometimes have trouble at extreme close ranges against some tanks also. the T34 HVAP round is meant for 700 yards to an extreme effective range of 1,300 yards max. too close it'll fly through, too far it'll ricochet. but this accompanies the larger hit sprite and not the ricochet sprite that you have described. aka you are ricocheting your rounds and just looks like theyre going through

I am curious about this because I have never seen this happen, generally speaking I am in a panther most of the time and tend to hit M16s and M3s often with AP rounds without ever seeing rounds bounce or deflect.

Sometime in the future I will get around to going in the DA and taking a few pop shots at m3s and see just what causes a deflection shot or "round going through a tank"

I would think a Panther firing AP would be a waste on M3s, I do know HE has its advantages because a close miss is enough to destroy an M3 or jeep.

HE is much more useful vs any GV that has "soft" armor when compared to AP.  Namely, the M3, M8, 251, and jeep.  Also, the Wirby and Osty can be turreted easier than one thinks with HE.  Even if you miss, you still hit.

Yes, but given Aces High 95% will be loaded down with AP rounds on defense, where attackers will rarely see an M8/M3 defending a town (unless its a last ditch effort to get to the town)

I haven't tired a main round on a m3/m8/jeep in weeks - pintle a tire out and wait till the vehicle leans to one side - fire a few pintle rounds into the hull and they go boom quick. I have recently realized if you explode a HE round above an M3 it will explode - was firing at a town building and an m3 was next to it, we both wondered what the hell happened, I guess its a proximity death, he also had a tire shot out by a strafing aircraft.
