And I think one factor PDFactorDave mentioned is also really important: A lot of the players actively dueling each other in DA have already know each other and have a kind of reputation. It's really not that easy for the mass of newer players to find someone to duel.

Not necessarily just the new guys.  Look at me, I've been around here for several years, and its tough for me to get a sparring partner.  You may not realize it, but the "elite" pilots are somewhat clickish (probably unintentionally, but the effect is the same).

Sounds like a good option to have an instant fight button in the DA. Would F-3 mode be disabled in the fast fight mode? I hate the DA because of F-3. I call it the garden hose effect, Just spray the stream and adjust to the target.

What does it matter if if it's your choice to use F3 or not? Or is F3 too much of an advantage?

Like the idea Snailman, but a question, would the loadout be your previously selected loadout, or the default one for both? Would like to add the idea of an option for random planes and random loadout, would be quite fun when you just want to mess around.

I would have thought about 25% fuel at FB 1.0, and a default gunpackage. Keeping it simple.

I think that might be a little undefined, alot of the regular duelers I know will happily fight anyone, new or old, good or rubbish. You are right to some extent, but I think those people you describe are the one's who duel for prestige and not for the fun of it. Dueling for prestige means there is little point in dueling someone who will be an 'easy kill' in their eyes as it will not elevate their status any further. These people are not worth dueling anyhow, as they are not bothered at all by their opponents enjoyment.
And I don't know much, but I do know this. With a golden heart comes a rebel fist.

I think the point is that certain guys can ask for a duel on 200 and have multiple takers quickly. I've asked on 200, went to DA and asked on All channel and sometimes still didn't find anyone.

There's also the time factor - someone agrees to fight but they're mid-sortie and it'll take another 10-15 minutes or whatever.

I like the randomness of this too, don't know who you'll fight.

there are VERY few players i will be willing to duel.. VERY few. and even then it would be for fun and not for "satisfaction" this system seems to be a good idea. and the guys who think satisfaction is necessary in a game can use the clipboard setup with their partner.

Shiv, You must be new if you have to ask what advantage F-3 mode gives you. It totally changes gun solutions that you could never have from inside the plane. In the MA you know you opponent can't hit you plane at certain angels and you can fly under him without being hit.

With F-3 that goes out the window. you end up with guys making fantastic deflection shots that are impossibles to do without F-3. Like I said it is the garden hose effect. If you want to fly outside the cockpit buy yourself a Microsoft game and have at it. I would be interested in an instant DA mode if F-3 is gone. Otherwise it is just another arcade game

As long as we'd still have the option to use the DA as it is now.

I am new. Would you like to duel? You can use F3 if you like:)

I've heard the complaints about it, never bought the fact it's a big advantage. Doesn't matter to me if someone uses it, still have to fly the plane.
