Coral Sea Scenario 2011 Registration is Open

Registration for Coral Sea 2011 is open...

Come fight the first Carrier Battle in history.  Planes will include for the Americans the F4F, SBD, TBM, P-39D, B-25C.  For the Axis they will include the A6M2, D3A, B5N, and G4M1.

Intense action awaits as the Japanese attempt to seize Port Morsby with an invasion force covered by two of the carriers which 6 months earlier had savaged Pearl Harbor.
The Americans, forewarned by intelligence intercepts, have stationed two carriers and a precious few other warships in an attempt to stop the invasion and protect Australia.

This scenario will be run on Saturday Evenings US time.  The arena will close down at 9:30 pm Eastern with launch time of 10:00pm Eastern.  Scenario length will be 3 hours.

Show-Up Time is 9:30 pm Eastern Time on Saturday Evening US TIME in the Special Events II Arena.  The arena will be closed to admittance after that time.

The frames will run on the following dates.

July 23, 2011:  Coordination Frame.
Week off for Final Coordination
August 6, 2011: Frame 1
August 13, 2011: Frame 2
August 20, 2011: Frame 3
August 27, 2011: Frame 4

Just a Note:

This is a Side Switch Event. Players will fly two frames for the Japanese, and two frames of the Americans.

A Side Switch Event has the entire Team switching sides, not individual players. Players will be flying with the same group
on both sides of the switch.

From the write up:

This is a side-switch scenario. There are two teams (Team Alpha and Team Zulu). First, Team Zulu will be the US forces and Team Alpha will be Japanese forces, and there will be two days of battle (frames 1 and 2). Then the teams will switch sides, and we will run the fight again in frames 3 and 4. Fighter pilots get three lives and bomber and scout pilots get three lives.

Shuffler is in denial...the irony is palpable..

Haha indeed.  I think everyone should sign up in one big pool and then the two COs do a fantasy-style draft to select their pilots.  Or everyone's team is completely randomized.  Then Shuffler will be happy :P .

But seriously, good timing for me on this scenario, I can make all frames or all except one.  Glad you guys get them in before college football tailgating season :) .

Shuffler, the Coral Sea battle is a two day fight.  Llike Midway or Pearl Harbor or Santa Cruz or Eastern Solomons.. it was not a week or month long campaign.  So in order to get a full scenario out of it we do two frames as each side for everyone.  It also gives you a great perspective on the actual battle seeing it from both sides.

Now one of these days we are going to do a series of battles all in a row highlighting the pacific.. and it will be interesting.  But we need more people to get interested in flying Japanese aircraft.
