A regular 1000 dollar setup can do that easy. I also play almost with 0 tweaking to win7 at full fps and my gaming computer atm has E8500 + 8 gigs of ram (cheap), Ati 5850hd...

Works like a charm, never had any performance problems. What should also be noted though is that the win7 is hand installed without any OEM crapware and the computer is used solely for gaming - no freeware crappolas etc. are installed on it. All my music work happens on mac, so is my office / graphics.

haha a regular $1,000 system........I have a bit less then $400 in my new internals....1000 bucks may be "regular" to you but to me that's a very serious system, if I had a grand to put into a system....it would be far from regular  :rofl

mrripley called bingo.  I have a 2500k with 8 gigs of ram and 465 video card.   only use mine to play ah and pay bills.    I should say that to upgrade you can do it over time.  you don't have to go out and spend 1k on the same day.  it cost me less than 500 bucks to upgrade reusing most of my components.

I'd like to remind that VAT can make a big difference in computer pricing. A 1000 dollars setup bought in the USA may be a good gaming rig for years to come, but if the same amount of bucks is used e.g. here in Finland, you'd get a decent office computer, VAT being 23% and shipping costs higher due to small volumes. Wikipedia tells you more about the subject

Doesn't take a 1grand system to play well like Guncrasher.  I play maxed (2048 textures, etc, 2K shadows), with ~40 processes at 60FR.  With today's prices my system only cost ~$500 (not including case). :)

ya I totally redid my internals for far less then what I originally paid, and my system works great. very happy with it.

I don't exactly know what prices you have down here but for 1000 bucks (715 euros) you can get a mid-line computer that has no 'power' components in it. I'm running like 4 years old CPU/mobo/ram combo with near 2 year old graphics card, no tweaking done and maxed out.

you are reusing some components.  win7 itself will cost you 100 bucks, which leaves you with:

     400
cd    20
hd    50
ps     50 (and this is low)
280  (assuming no taxes, shipping) balance to get mobo, cpu, video card, ram.  you can get a system for that much to play ah nicely but not with everything fully maxed out and shadows at 2048.  it's like me saying I got that system for 250 bucks.  which is what I paid for a new mobo/cpu/ram less what I got for my old parts and reused the rest.

anyway some of you guys think you have to buy everything brand new, well if you have a brand name computer you most likely will have to (dell, gateway, etc.)  but if you think long term like some of us do, you wont spend lots of money to get a good computer.

this is how I did mine, i spent 1500 bucks on a gateway top of the line puter about 5 years ago.  then I found out it was a pos 4 months later.  2 years later I bought a new case, mobo, vc and ps.  reused the rest.  over the next  6 months I bought parts to replace what I was reusing, since they were not the best.  then I sold my gateway for 300 bucks and bought me a new monitor, keyboard, mouse plus  ram.  total cost for that was less than 700 bucks (about 1k less the 300 bucks)  over a 6 month period. and that was a kick donut e8400 system with a 9800gtx+ evga video card that could play ah with everything maxed out.

like I said think, long term, if it takes you a year, then it will take you a year, but be patient and work within your budget.  I could've spent more money than what I did at one time, but I really hate to waste money.

I did actually forget the HDD in the prices, nothing is re-used.  I said "using today's prices", and some parts I use have dropped/no longer sold.

Mobo: ASUS M4A88T-M LE       $80
CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 555     $87
RAM: G.Skill 4GB DDR3-1333      $42
GPU: EVGA GTX 260 216 core    $130 (NE Recertificed)
PSU: OCZ StealthX 700W          $90 (No longer sold that I can find)
HDD: WD 1TD Black Ed             $90
DVD: ASUS DVD-Drive              $20
                                          ------
                                           $539  or ~$500

Add-in my case and the price jumps up to over $600, but most people don't want/need my case.
