It was the largest amphibious invasion to date and, following the battles in North Africa, the first step to invasion of continental Europe.
Fierce air battles between the allied air forces on the one side and the Luftwaffe and Regia Aeronautica on the other, tactical bombing, anti-shipping, shore bombardment, airborne landings, amphibious assaults, Patton vs. Montgomery in the race to Mesina -- all were part of Operation Husky..
All players are welcome, and no preparation is needed. TDIWWII events have the theme of the battle, but they are not realistic recreations and do not require familiarity with any rules prior to joining us for the fun. More info can be found Here.  Forums for this event can be found Here

Wednesday July 13th, 2011 10:00pm Eastern in SEA II Snapshot -   "Mersa Matruh Road" Hosted by 68Baltar.
After the failure of Operation Battleaxe (June 1942) in North Africa General Wavell was removed from command and replaced by General Auchinleck. Churchill pressed Auchinleck to mount an immediate offensive despite the short supplies. In preparation for this, strafing attacks occurred on a regular basis prior to the Crusader Battles in November 1942. One of these attacks took place over the Mersa Matruh road on November 1st 1942. Kittyhawks of the No. 250 Squadron of the Royal Air Force set out to strafe targets along the Mersa Matruh road when they were jumped by MC 202's of 18 Gruppo. Capitano Franco Bordoni-Bisleri added two of his twelve victories over North Africa that day by shooting down two of the Kittyhawks.
Snapshots are walk on events and all are welcome. Forums are located Here
