I give it a big thumbs down.  The covert, clandestine, and nonviolent resolution of crises catapaulted the original Mission: Impossible to glory. This is a perversion of that ideal.

Just because it made the first a great movie does not mean the others that follow will work with the same formula as well. That's what happened with the Hangover Part 2, same EXACT formula as the first...its old, over done, and not original. You can not give it a thumbs down because it's not like the first...otherwise they should just remake the first movie.

I'd disagree.  The old movies are so old that many have not seen them, much less the TV series.  Making a second movie that follows the same basic formula but with new twists would continue in the Mission Impossible theme while still providing audiences with something fresh.  Furthermore, making an action movie titled Mission Impossible makes that movie little more than a titular addition to the series.

Now don't misunderstand my point, action movies are fun to watch, but not when they are supposed to be stealthy spy thrillers.  You don't see James Bond going on a rampage with a fully automatic weapon, now do you?

You should watch some 007 movies, come back and edit that statement.

I watched the trailer and all I see, most of the time, is the enemy shooting at him...sooo...I will say you can't judge a book by it's cover.

Who ever said MI was supposed to be a 'stealthy spy thriller'?

As far as I'm concerned, Mission Impossible is about an IMPOSSIBLE MISSION of some sort.

D'OH! Wrong movie.

The audience said so, the pilot episode was just like that movie, and the fans said "meh".  When they made it a stealthy spy thriller, ratings soared.

So, in a 2:22 clip you can come to that sweeping conclusion ...

Looks like a typical IM movie ... not really different than the 1st 3 ... looks to be entertaining.

I was not making the point about the movies, I was making a point about the TV series.  You didn't often see Roland solving problems with bullets.
