Can you say Humuhumunukunukuāpua'a?
« on: July 03, 2011, 02:48:38 AM »
Well, just got back from a week in Oahu, and had a blast there with my family. Stayed on the hotel-ridden shore of Waikiki, and was a great time overall. I went to visit and pay my respects at the Arizona memorial (My grandfather's cousin was stationed on the West Virginia during the attack, and barely got away unharmed), and visited the Pacific Air Museum as well. But the highlight of the trip had to be the SCUBA diving, took 3 dives, including a dive to this.

The picture isn't mine, sadly due to a camera box that wouldn't properly seal. However, it was quite amazing to say the least, I was able to sit in the cockpit after a bit of coaxing a stubborn Moray out from near the rudder pedals. Will post some pictures from the trip once I find the time.

I heard that, I'm exactly the same. Whenever I go outside I have on jeans a long sleeve shirt and a hat to avoid contact  :lol

I'm surprised you were allowed to sit in the cockpit. I have scuba dived the keys and we were told not to touch anything.

My sister who has dived countless wrecks, including the U-352, said she was not allowed to touch the Sub as it is a war-grave.
There must also be a flyable computer available for Nefarious to do FSO. So he doesn't keep talking about it for eight and a half hours on Friday night!

Hmm... Did you dive with a company or on your own? I've done a bit of diving myself here, but never been out to any wrecks. Would love to see it before I head back to Texas if you have any details?

On the internet, they say 'pics or it didn't happen'.

Applying this logic here, there were no pics, therefore it did not happen.  :aok

It wasn't a war grave, was a successful water ditch and the pilot got away unharmed. Also, we did it through the Waikiki dive shop. Almost didn't go cause of a 100+ fever the night before, cleared up like a miracle.

lol off topic, but i was told that yesterday when i said i discoed 5 kills on my first sorty of the month. Then someone else chimed in and said just look at his stats, it is all the proof u need.

on topic, thats pretty cool. I want to try diving sometime, but i have a hard enough time relieving the pressure on my eary in just 10ft water. did you have to get certified to do that or were you already? How deep was that corsair?

Been certified for 5 years now, and for the corsair, yes you would have to be since its about 100 ft down. The reef dives were at around 40-45 ft. I would definitely say try it if you want, but you have to be as serious as if you were learning to fly a plane, yes it's easier (why I don't have a license yet) but there are as many ways that things can go horribly wrong in my opinion. Had a dive in Akumal, ruined by old gear that started leaking air, had to use friends secondary breather the rest of the dive, so it was about a 1/3 to 1/2 as long as planned.
