Not sure if this has been talked about on here already or not but I just saw this posted about on my Facebook page from "World of Tanks" that they are developing a new game for the series called "World of Warplanes", I guess it will be similar to "WOT" in that you earn points & gold to upgrade and buy new vehicles.  It says in the article that you'll be able to use the gold from your "WOT" account in "World of Warplanes".  I'll definitely be giving it a try when they come out with it to see how the game play & modeling is.

They also mentioned in the article that after "World of Warplanes" they might develop a game called "World of Battleships".

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/07/01/world-of-warplanes-first-details-will-have-same-gold-experience-economics-as-world-of-tanks/

I played WOT for about a week a few months ago.  In a word as to their tanking simulation---DUMB!  Don't tell me where the enemy tanks are; what fun is that?

BUT

I see the new GVs model here to Aces High mimicks WOT's keypad vehicle movements.  Myself, I hate the new GV modeling including the ship gunning here to the current Aces High.  I liked the older version better.  I came here in 2007.  I know a lot of guys that quit Aces High because of this stupid GV modeling.  Here, they took away the zoom application, why even use an M8?  Early War and Mid War Arenas are ghost towns since this new Aces High version.  Don't go blaming loss of people due to a bad economy as to losing customers.

For about a year I left here and do other flight sims.  I came back here last month.  I do miss the other aspects of this game that nobody else has.  I suspect some guys have also come back under different usernames, but their old squads do not exist anymore.

The current PC Gamer magazine "Holiday 2011" I purchased because I built my current machine from their suggestions in their "Hard Stuff Trinity" column, and am looking to build a newer one.

Page 22 as to the PC Gamer magazine mentions an article titled, "World of Warplanes", and why I posted this reply.  I did a search to the forums here; this thread was top of the listing.

I will try this newbie just to see what it is.

DCS Warthog and Black Shark are much more realistic than here but the servers used are kind of like a LAN party and no dedicated, company owned server.  And, until they build up enough dedicated aircraft like "LockOn" has, there is not much to offer in aerial combat and there is no GVs to hop in to, except watch the AI do their thing.

Surprisingly, looking at the world market, the flight sim community may be small, but it has their own very dedicated niches that seem to be good enough to make profit for awhile.  Maybe the community is small, but like to Aces High, there are a few hundred, maybe a thousand or so people that still like the game, no matter what the management does to it.  As to DCS, I have only met a couple guys that have ever tried Aces High and the guys that I have talked to (typed to and TeamSpeak) would never come here, as Aces High is not realistic enough to their comparrison.

Economics 101 taught that all consumer products have a life span.  The trick to longevity is marketing and catering to people's wants and maybe that is why the changes that continue here.  It will be interesting to see if "World of Warplanes" modeling will be incorporated here to some aspect.

Here you go.  Go at it.

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/series/warthog/

The same people make the Ka-50 Black Shark.

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/series/black_shark/

I've been playing both since March 2011 after the man kicked me off this BBS for justifiable reasons.  I quit the game and all my perkies went bye-bye.  Rejoined last month---I guess I miss all the in game blatant chatter and I like the AH server.

I was in Best Buy last January and got LockOn Platinum for $20, which I played about a week.  Flaming Cliffs is not very realistic, but DCS is.  Then I found Warthog.  Warthog is made for Windows-7, 64 bit.  These guys actually built the real life, USA National Guard flight simulator for the Warthog, less the Classified stuff for in game.  I did a Google search and found a very friendly guy that helped set me up with my CH Gear and thus the journey.

Some guy in Falcon 4, actually one Italian guy, says Falcon 4 has a much more realistic flight model in comparrison to DCS.  There is a community of this genre that still exist just for Falcon 4.  Cheap via Amazon.

Starting both aircraft as preflight takes 10 minutes, after you learn it, just to taxi to the runway.  Nothing like taking off, hit birds, flameout, and emergency procedures.  They fly in real weather conditions and crosswind landings.

I downloaded the modules from the Russian mirror in my wee hours here in NY as the USA http mirror kept locking up.

The Warthog was $60 plus unlimited free patches.  No CD existed at the time.  No server fee.

The helicopter, just to fly it, is much more of a challenge.

There are two modes: one for arcade like gaming, and one in full simulation.  The best server in the USA is near Boston; I think this guy actually has a real server up, not just a PC server.  Think he goes by the Phoenix squad.  He plays his server in full, realistic sim mode and better know your stuff and he has rules---forget about vulching.  There, as here, they have real life pilots and commercial pilots and some military pilots.

I really don't care.  There are other flight sims to go fly, actually better than here.  I don't think I have violated any rules.  But whatever, I used to be a hippy child, go with the flow, man.

Well, opinions are relative, eh?

Neither of those are yours. What is the name of the game you produce. I'd like to try it.

Neither of the games you listed are competition for AH.

MY flight sim?

Did I say that?

I have MY copy I purchased, but basically, like here, I rent.

Competition?

I don't think I said that either.

I did say REALISTIC as in REALISM.  AH never flies in real weather, for instance.

I took Commodore-64 BASIC programming once.  That's my extent of programming.

I did mention I want to build a new machine, new PC.

Have a nice day.

1) Nothing has really changed in EW and MW population "since this new" version. Basically both arenas are in a slow steady decline ever since they had been created, but other than that there was no significant, sudden drop recently.

2) GV modeling. Every change, no matter how good or bad it is, makes some people quit. And as like-minded people tend to stick together, everybody having a beef with something "knows many guys who had left". There was that guy in the MA who even stated numbers like "30% of the GV'ers have left, I talked to them.
But fact is that the GV usage (measured in play time) went UP since the changes. I wished myself AH wouldn't have gone this way in GV modeling, but the numbers clearly indicate that I'm in the minority ;)

DCS Warthog and Black Shark are much more realistic than here...<snip>
from what perspective? all the little switches and buttons you have to push just to light up the engines? lots of fun but, consider what would happen in the main arenas if it took 5 or 10 minutes to get off the runway...500 people avoiding any real fighting because they don't want to have to take the time to get back in the air. not to mention how much easier it would be to take a base and you wouldn't even have to kill the hangars.

As to DCS, I have only met a couple guys that have ever tried Aces High and the guys that I have talked to (typed to and TeamSpeak) would never come here, as Aces High is not realistic enough to their comparrison.
for those "not realistic enough" people i have to wonder how many of those you spok to actually spent any time flying an a-10 or ka-50...i'm betting their idea of "more realistic" has more to do with the buttons and gadgets than anything else.

Generally when you talk about business choices of other businesses it is better to be experienced in those businesses before critiquing. It was my mistake assuming you might know what you were talking about.

If graphics are all that floats your boat then this game is not for you.
If you want to control all extents of engine start up and airflow then this game is not for you.
If you want modern jets or helos, this game is not for you.

I'm not sure who guided you here based on your criteria but they were mistaken.

This game is for folks who like flying, driving, or floating WWII era equipment without being fully trained in operating the real deal. This game is for folks who like playing against other real live players. This game's graphics are designed to work on new machines and also for folks who do not have the latest/greatest machines.

As I stated in the earlier post. The two games you posted are not are not competition for AH. Your bringing them up as a comparison. They both fail in that regard as neither has WWII equipment.

Ah, sarcasm.

I totally missed that.  Guess you got me...

I'll stay in the game.  I think it best for me to stay off the BBS.  Any further discussion of any kind on any subject is pointless.

World of warplanes is made by the guys that made world of tanks. Look at the World Of Planes game. That has graphics AND will have a persistant environment like what we have here. Looks like they spent some time looking at our wishlist with the f-86 in there as well as some other things. This game is certainly behind as far as a few games out there, but this one is still fun sometimes.

Hmp!  Hadn't seen that WoP was different from WoW.  That's interesting.  I will be surprised if WoW is decent, but gonna have to read up on WoP.

Keep in mind that World of Planes is from the same guys that did IL2 Birds of Prey for Xbox 360. If the flight model is the same, all the eye candy wont save it. Also there were elements that were VERY arcadey, so OPs wish for more realism might come up a bit short.

World of Planes is made by the same guys that did the console to PC port of Birds of Prey and called it Wings of Prey.  It was pretty to look at but the flight model and physics were pure arcade.  Don't expect more out of WoP.

Birds of Prey is the only game I have ever returned, it was just so horrible. Thanks for bringing back the nightmares.  :cry
