F3 View For GVs
« on: July 04, 2011, 07:12:41 PM »
Bring back the F3 view for tanks. It's justified for bombers to reflect a number of crewmen in 'em.
Well, tanks had several crewmen as well. Plus, and this is the most important part; it just looked damn
cool watchin' an armored attack moving forward from the F3 viewpoint.

Comparing F3 in buffs and tanks is comparing apples & oranges. The gameplay implications are quite different.
You really want to see enemy tanks behind hills, trees or barns? F3 doesn't just put you outside, it put's you up in the air. In bombers, that doesn't matter at all. In GVs it's a totally different thing.

We already get it, for the most part.  Which direction can we not see while in TC mode?  While in the TC's position, a player can view (via hat switch) in any direction unobstructed.  It already gives us a HUGE advantage over what we should really have: a buttoned up view (and a very limited view view at that) once an enemy tank gets within X number of yards.

I'll actually debate that.  The TC's had binoculars that had upwards of 7X zoom, in AH we have at most 2.5X from the TC's position.  That can be seen easily the next time you are in a Panzer IV H, just zoom in all the way while in the TC's position and then switch to the gunners view, you will lose magnification while in the gunners view.  Same goes for the M3/75mm and M8.  Plus, the ability of the TC to view all things in all directions (unbuttoned) is just like how it was.  Even to this day.

The issue for me is the fact that the TC stays unbuttoned the entire time regardless of its combat situation.  I'm sure the overwhelming majority of TC's in WWII buttoned up as soon as the first bullet zinged off the armor of the first report of an enemy tank gun was heard (or seen).  Long range tank duels on the Ost Front it might have been more common to see the TC's up top while their tank was firing/receiving fire, but their risk was minimized.  Obviously, the coding of that anomaly would be the tough part.

this is what im talking about. the fov for the cmdr is too great. as soon as engaged hatches were closed and noone stuck thier head outta the hatches. the exception to this was if mines were suspected they would open hatches but keep thier heads down.

Let's not, and say we never asked for it.

If you want to see a formation of tanks in F3 mode use the film viewer after your sortie is over.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.
