Yes and No. I don't think they hurt at all, but sometimes the setup is the objective, to kill folks in planes while flying other planes (of specific types, I mean). I'd say 60% "no" and 40% "yes" -- I wouldn't turn my nose up at either option.

I like the idea of objectives, but it seems so far the ones included recently haven't influenced the player base that direction.  :salute

I think they have a little, but it does take a while to settle on a workable concept and then for it to catch on with players.

question: sorry if its stupid, but when you say "setups with objectives" you mean like where it says " the point of this AVA is to go capture this port or this field or bomb this or destroy this or save this" right?

sorry, im still learning all the phrases used around here.

Yes, having a battle plan to follow if one chooses.

I like the additional objectives, though there needs to be a minimum number of players on for it to work. In the MA's the side with the most numbers (hoard) generally rolls the bases. In AvA we switch sides to even up the fight, which makes it very difficult to affect a capture. Did have a fun cliffhanger when SUNNY, HC and I captured an airfield defended by 3 players. 20 troops would definitely not made it. As it was we donated multiple M3 deaths to the cause.

I suppose once I get more involved I will know better the answer to this but...

Please excuse my obvious lack of knowlege about how the AVA works...I plan on correcting this issue  :)

Is there a way to make the damaged buildings, etc STAY damaged for the week, or at least for an extended time if not the entire week?
For example, an airfield has it's fighter hangars destroyed. Since to my knowlege we can't crater runways in AH, could we maybe report that airfield so and so has been knocked out of action and then have it stay out of action for a day or two?  Would give incentive for the Attack guys and the defenders.

Then is there a way to get a summary of the action that happened the day before, kind of like a running commentary or SITREP, and make this available to the troops (via a link to a web page placed in a highly visible manner somewhere here on the AH site)? Like a revised map showing the FEB for each day. Showing that action IS taking place in a running battle MAY get us more flyers. Just a thought.

I like the way you think Zeagle.  I spoke with you briefly online, and it seems that you are returning to the game after a break.

The AvA is the closest that you can find to a FSO or Special Event that runs 24 hours a day.

Yes, there is and Jimson has run setups with that setting. ( One problem that he spoke about in another thread is the unfortunate server resets that occur due to things out of the AvA staff's control.  The best solution, so far has been to have a daily objective that can be tallied at a certain time.  Then any resets could revert back to the tally.  Believe me, this happens more than once in a while.  I have yet to see a setup run for a full week without a reset of some kind, at least not one that I was participating in).

I like the concept.  Here is the flaw.  One guy will come in while no one is paying attention, and knock out all of the airfields.  Guess what without airfields, no action.  Now, what has been tried, is to use the strats which slow the repair of field structures.  That is incentive and answers your next question about summaries and updates.  Just pull up the clipboard and check the base stats and the strat % will be listed.

Look here http://avaarena.webs.com/ The staff took it upon themselves to do this sweet website.  Click on AAR to get a taste of all the cool stuff they were doing.

Perhaps Zeagle, you are just as  :headscratch: puzzled by the number of players populating EW, MW and DA, while holding their noses at the AvA.  It is just a shame that the amount of hard work and sacrifice that goes into making the arena something that gives a historical sense to the cartoon game is given such little consideration.  I mean HTC goes through so much trouble to make flight and damage models historically acurate, but yet the customers prefer to grab the BEST plane available, without regard to country or side and go fly their best against other guys flying a patchwork of planes from all historical combatants, but under another red chess piece icon flag.

Thanks for the reply chilli. I'll check the ava website when I get home later today. Looks like I have a lot to learn.

Nice website by the way. I like the After Action Reports. Well done.

Looks like I have a lot to learn.

That's just it Zeagle.  There is not a lot to know.  Pop in whether or not someone is logged on, and read the Arena Message from your clipboard.  Pretty much, like the Special Events and FSO's, there is a theme to each weekly setup.  By reading the MOTD, you will be able to locate which country has what equipment available and sometimes at what fields.  Also, the objectives should be found there.

Now, once others log on, the arena has taken on a historic dueling / furballing shape, where folks gravitate towards the most action.  One thing that I try to avoid is too much stealth.  I feel that hiding under radar or sneaking to a base to grab the maproom doesn't do much to promote a fun atmosphere, unless it is part of the objectives (then, it should be the oppositions "duty" to read the Arena Message and put up a defense when spotted).

So, basically "There is no Pirate's code of conduct..... they are more like guidelines.... arrgrraaaaaarrr"
