A6M skins
« on: July 22, 2011, 03:08:46 AM »
I'm currently researching which A6M skins I'm going to do. To avoid duplicating someone else's skin, which A6Ms are being worked on at the moment? I've seen Fencer's thread on his A6M3 skins and I vaguely recall Busa saying he was working on some too. However I can't find anything in the "skins under construction" thread and the BBS' search facility is disabled at the moment.

Thanks Fencer, that's what I was looking for.

I found the post by Busa I was looking for as well. He's doing an A6M5 with tail code Ko 175. Not sure if that means a code from 175 Kokutai or Ko is the western name of a Japanese character. Either way, I'll avoid that one.

Thanks for the info Wildcat. I'll consider that one, although looking at the photo I don't think the stripe colour is right on the profile.

Yeah, there's another profile with a red stripe, so I'm just working on both right now until I can verify what color it was.

The A6M3 seems like its well covered, so I think I'll skip that one for now and do a few 2s and 5s instead.

Currently considering the following A6M skins, may change as I get more info:

201st Air Group A6M2, tail code 02-888. Philippines 1944. One of the first Kamikazes with dark green upper paint, very worn.
203rd Air Group A6M2, tail code 03-51. Kurile Islands 1944. Rare nightfighter with all over black paint (some reckon all dark green).
6th Air Group A6M2, tail code U-164. New Guinea 1942. Basic all over grey scheme but with field applied green mottled top sides.
203rd Air Group A6M5, tail code 03-79. Japan 1945. Standard green/grey scheme but with two diagonal stripes on rear fuselage.
Another A6M5 with the white edging of the hinomaru markings overpainted in green. Not decided which yet. Someone asked me to do this a while ago.

Hello, it is busa01.

I am sorry, I should have written in here early more.
I submitted the skin of five Model32 last month.
I chose so that the skin of Fencer51 might not be overlapped.
But since the skin of 2-181 was completed, it overlaps.
EII-147 and X-152 were painted by Hai-Midori-Iro (pantone5783) polished every day.
The paint of V-190 is chalked.
The paint of 2-181 is chalked further.
The paint of T2-188 was carried out in D4 leaf green.

The following is the extract of the submitted reference.

EII-147
This skin is A6M3 Model32 of CV Zuikaku FG in June- October, 1942 . The appended photograph is a part of movie before Battle of the Santa Cruz Islands.
It was photoed by the Zuikaku photograph unit. Model32 of this movie was known by only a small number of researcher till recently.
Therefore, the web photograph was not found. For the reason, I append one reference photograph.
The tail code has not been specified. And we can see a part of movie also to the following sites.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieZcc-pGjc4

X-152
This skin is 3rd NFG(202NFG) of A6M3 Model32.
3rd NFG is most excellent FG in IJNAF 1941-1942.

V-190
This skin is Tainan FG of A6M3 Model32.

2-181
This skin is 2nd NFG/FS of A6M3 Model32.
I expressed the paint which carried out chalk.

T2-188
This skin is A6M3 Model32 204NFG.
In Japan, the color of the stripe of the fuselage has two historical investigation. With the clear photograph of 204NFG discovered recently, it is considered to be yellow.
The photograph of T2-188 had too high contrast, and it has not checked it.In memory of a pilot, these A6M3 were painted the leaf green color.
I append the proof whose it is not D1 dark green.I adopted "IJNAF Provisional Standard 117 Color Norms" D4 leaf green.
"IJNAF Provisional Standard 117 Color Norms" is the original of the color chart of IJNAF possessed by National Diet Library.

The completed other skins.
251NFG/U1-163/D2Green/J3Gray.(not Model22)
582NFG/D2Green/J3Gray with Chevron.(Model22)
Tainan2nd/Tai-180/D1Green/J3Gray.
YokosukaNFG/Yo-153 Green Gray.
I want to choose and submit one out of these four.
Probably it is 582NFG or TainanNFG(2nd).
Is it allowed?

Model21
TainannNFG/CAG.
ZuikakuFG/1942.
HiryuFG/1941.
AkagiFG/1941.
And probably V-153 With no Chevron.

Model52
203NFG/303FS / 03-09.(completed)
201NFG(s)/2-???
601NFG(s) / 601-01.
653NFG(s) / 653-28.
721 NFG/JinraiFS.

Thank you for reading my poor English.

Thank you for the list Busa. I look forward to seeing them online and will avoid skinning the same ones.
