VMO-251 F4F-3P
« on: July 20, 2011, 07:20:46 AM »
Lyric1 found me some profiles and photos of this Wildcat scheme. It is an F4F-3P, which was the armed photo reconnaissance version of the Wildcat. The rear fuselage tank was removed and replaced with a camera but otherwise it was much the same as the fighter version. This aircraft flew with VMO-251 based on Guadalcanal in 1942.

This squadron often used fake gun patches to give the impression of a heavier than in reality armament. So although the real aircraft had four guns I've added a couple of extra patches on the outboard guns.

I was working on a VMO-251 skin for the F4F, but gave it up when the squad effectively disbanded last year. Good to see it picked up again.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

That is sharp!   I guess this means we won't be receiving an updated F4F in the near future.  :(
